Is it possible to live a life any more?

Perhaps I'm just going through a negative phase and I'll soon snap out of it I'm sure. But, does anyone else think it's hard to live a life aside from the day to day grind?

I've always overly romanitised but I feel it's sad the world(s) I was hoping to find from so many movies/sitcoms/TV has vanished. Obviously I'm not looking for Narnia. Just some depth/richness(not monetary)/characters and adventure would be nice.

Probably not helped by just having returned from an overly packed pub full of miserable and sweary people. But couldn't help think, is this it?
Where are the people with a zest for life that seemed so obundant in the 90's. I'm talking bollucks I know.

Yes I often feel like this, I've never found the words to explain it that don't make it sound like I'm expecting life to be a sitcom, but you've put it really well

I don’t know if it’s that I was younger or what but the world felt full of possibilities and people seemed nicer.

maybe it’s that potentially I’m feeling similar to you. I’m at the younger kids stage with a mortgage and car payment and not a lot spare at the end of the month…there seems little frivolity or possibility lately!

I had a really shit time as a teenager but still somehow felt that those days were rosier. Maybe it’s just hindsight. I feel like everything went tits up for the world around 2001. I don’t know why.

maybe it’s just the grind of adulthood being a bit wank. It’s not really the kind of life for anyone, is it?

I agree, but I think things were good until 2018/19. I don't want to say pre COVID cause that sounds too simplistic but for me 2017/18 was great. I was in a job I enjoyed with some good friends, I had a second job from home working for a great bloke (RIP) so I had that for fun money, town was busier both day and night, things just felt more alive.

However, this is what we have got now and we have to look for the good bits rather than yearning for the past. Tonight, the good is in the rather nice bottle of Viognier that I am drinking 😂

I really recommend The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin. IIRC she felt similar but took things into her own hands to try to find things that worked for her, some really good ideas https://gretchenrubin.com/books/the-happiness-project/

The Happiness Project | Gretchen Rubin

The Happiness Project synthesizes the wisdom of the ages with current scientific research, as author Gretchen Rubin brings readers along on her year to greater happiness.

@Dolphininawheelchair Er, in 2001 the planes hit the twin towers on 11th September. Nothing has been the same since. That could be why.
