Not sure if I was rude

Just had a knock at my front door, normally I don’t answer the door if I’m not expecting anyone, not sure why I did, it was a lady I believe from the council I can’t remember what she said, but she had a lanyard on, I did receive a letter a while ago as I had been chosen to take part in a survey, I don’t really want to participate surely this is my right? But she was being quite persuasive asking me why I didn’t want too, I could feel myself getting annoyed and I said “because I don’t want too” in quite a firm tone, she did finally leave, hate to think I was rude to her.

Anyone can wear a lanyard. Why would someone from the council be asking questions at the door? I thought they were short staffed!

When once someone won't take no for an answer it is THEY who are being rude.

pinenuts75 · 11/08/2025 17:14

I did receive a letter thinking about it, but I just shoved it in the drawer, not really sure what it’s all about, but I didn’t give her a chance to explain, she wasn’t very happy though I wouldn’t agree.

Yes I don’t really agree with them knocking on doors, surely I should agree make an appointment if I want to participate.

I would have done the same, no means no, she was rude to keep pushing

verycloakanddaggers · 11/08/2025 17:17

It's fine, you just repeated that you didn't want to.
Go and read the letter if you think you may have missed something important.

I was chosen at random I believe

I’ve done some work for a survey company. Appointments were always made in advance, at a suitable time, after the person had agreed to doing it. I’m sure she’ll be ok, she’s probably just used to having to be pushy to get them in. Sometimes you need to be assertive!

Yes I may call the council to complain

It might be better for you if you just let it go, no harm has been done. You told her, she's gone.
