To let DS wear his new trainers without socks....

Just wanting to know if i'm being reasonable for being annoyed about this.

DS12 has decided today (and for the past few weeks) since the weathers been a lot warmer that he's not gonna be wearing socks anymore (for the summer) - He's been mucking about in some old astro turf style footy boots for the past few weeks which I didn't mind (they do now reek though). However, as it's a lot nicer weather today and he's going out with some mates, he's decided to wear his new Nike Dunks without any, despite him having loads of trainer socks.

Would you be annoyed about this? Socks were always enforced by my parents when I were growing up (had a very strict family and upbringing). I'm annoyed cause it'll wear out his shoes faster (and cause them to reek) and that he's got trainer socks available (which according to him are too warm!)

I do a lot of sport but never wear socks in my trainers, my kids never did either. I find the socks cause me blisters, I have tried every kind of sock you can imagine. Swop the insert for odour eaters and bung the trainers in the washing machine once a week with an antibacterial washing solution. They dry out over night and smell clean.

I'm not a child. But always wore trainers without socks from teen years to recently. So, I don't get the blister/worn out shoes/athletes foot etc arguments.

Yes the shoes do smell - but you can get an antibacterial spray you use after every wear.

At the same time, if you want him to wear socks, it's your right to insist.

As a teenager in the 90s literally no one wore socks with trainers. That was the trend then. I still have feet on the end of my legs. Never once had athletes foot. Trainers went in the washing machine. Occasionally talc. I’d let him. It’s a fad.

If this is going to annoying you at 12 then you have a long very
tedious journey ahead
Let him do as he wants. Find something worth worrying about if you need to.

I've worn trainers without socks for years, socks are uncomfortable to wear when it's hot. I've never got blisters from doing it, and never noticed my shoes being stinky.

I don’t think there’s much you can do, you can tell him to wear them but there’s nothing to stop him taking them off when he meets his friends. I’d just tell him it’s gross as all the sweat will sit in his shoes and I won’t be buying him anymore branded trainers if he doesn’t look after them 😂
