EasyJet and car seat

I’m going round in circles and seem to be getting different answers when contacting easyJet in different ways.

has anyone recently travelled with a child over five and been able to take a car seat for free? My 9 year old isn’t at the height for not having one and we’ve hired a car.

can I take a car seat for him for free? Their website seems to suggest so but it’s under the “under 5” section?!

Would you not just hire a seat along with the car from the car hire company?

purpleygrey · 11/08/2025 10:09

I would hire one with your car if you really need one.
although I don’t know any 9 year olds in car seats , are you sure they still need one. Would booster seat be okay ?

I get not hiring it from the hire car company, they’ll give you a backless booster, which I’d be fine with for a 9YO, but charge you more per day than it cost to buy so you’d be totally ripped off! Personally I’d avoid the faff of checking it and instead get a trunki boostapak and he can take it as his carry on.

When she was 9, mine was in a car seat. She still needed it, and it fitted her fine. Much safer than a high back booster.

Mine is in a backless booster. The charge for hiring it for the week is £100 which feels like a lot. I don’t think it even cost that new!

Given you can pick up a backless booster for £10-£15, buy one over there (wherever there is).

BertieBotts · 14/08/2025 12:42

You can normally take a backless booster in the hold for free even for older children. You could pick one up from a supermarket when you get there as said, but they are more like €30 in Europe and it seems a waste when you have one already.

@Beyondparadisefan
It quite clearly states on their website that a child is between 2-15 years old and that a child can take 2 free child items to go in the hold. One of the listed items is a booster seat.

I know! The staff member I spoke to said that as they are not an infant they can’t take an additional item and even when I showed their website they said it wasn’t correct 🙄

That's bonkers. Could you buy an ultra cheap booster here and try to take it? Then if it's refused you haven't lost too much.
Or a Boostapak as hand luggage as PP suggested?

Clearinguptheclutter · 14/08/2025 13:05

if the website says you can take it then I’d just turn up with it (unless it’s expensive which I doubt). Point at website if challenged and ask to speak to a supervisor if any trouble.

fairly sure I must have taken boosters before after the age of 5

Clearinguptheclutter · 14/08/2025 13:06

If you happen to be in south Manchester pm me as I have two you can have for free (that I do not want back as kids outgrown)
