Mounjaro has totally transformed my life

I’ve always struggled with my weight, I can remember crying in the toilets at a Wacky warehouse birthday party aged 9 about my weight! I’ve go to dieted throughout my 20’s and started the year at 18stone 4lbs which at 5foot was dangerously unhealthy.

At the end of January I decided enough was enough, I was heading for an early grave and needed to myself sorted. I started on Mounjaro after a recommendation from a colleague at the end of January as since then I have lost 4stone 5lb. I still have another 4 stone to go before I’m at the top end healthy weight but truly it is the best thing i’ve ever done.

It hasn’t been easy, the side effects are brutal, it isn’t cheap and there seems to be a stigma about taking it and ‘cheating’ but for the first time in my whole life I have a grip over my eating, I feel healthy and strong. The mental (as well as physical obviously) effects of being morbidly obese are devastating, I’d be embarrassed about leaving the house, my weight was the first thing I thought about in the morning and the last thing at night. I could not see anyway out. Now, I feel confident, have been on holiday and got in a swimming costume which I haven’t done in years, taken my son to a theme park for the first time, I am able to go into a shop and buy something off off the rail. A million things

Not sure why I’m posting this, not many people know I’m on it and even the ones who do don’t really understand as they’ve never been overweight. But I’ve been looking back at my progress since January today and feel really proud of myself for once in my life 🤣

Congratulations OP Im so pleased for you. It's changed my life too. I've lost 5 stone after years of being fat and endless failed dieting attempts.
I feel transformed too.

Gettingbysomehow · 11/08/2025 07:10

P.S there is no such thing as "cheating". Only healthy weight loss however it is achieved and it's much better than having irreversible weight loss surgery.

Whitehorses67 · 11/08/2025 07:10

Whilst you have found the side effects “brutal” this is not true for most people.
Just clarifying because I wouldn’t want that remark to put anybody off.

arcticpandas · 11/08/2025 07:13

I guess I'm cheating as well taking antidepressants then? I will probably need to be on them for life in order to fonction, just like many Mounjaro users.

BunniB · 11/08/2025 07:15

Did you do it privately op?

It’s not cheating. I hope you successfully keep the weight off when you stop taking the medication.

For the constipation look up chia seeds and also try prune juice.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 11/08/2025 07:17

Can I just ask how the loss is maintained once the injections stop? Don’t the old eating habits return or do the injections help you change your mindset/habits for good?

828Pax · 11/08/2025 07:18

Honestly it's changed my life too! I can now run around the park with my kids, take them swimming without the fear of having to wear a swimsuit in public, fit on theme park rides! It's been life changing x

BlackCatGreyWhiskers · 11/08/2025 07:21

Happy for you OP, I absolutely love seeing people who have battled with their weight all their life thriving on these drugs. Must be incredible to finally be in control and regaining some health. Well done for sticking with it 👏🏻

doodleschnoodle · 11/08/2025 07:23

Yes! Genuinely life-changing. I had some mild gastric side effects but nothing major and now 5.5 stone gone and 22BMI and my life is transformed. DH is 8 stone down and almost at goal too! He’s had no side effects. We both have managed to lose the weight on the second lowest dose too.

Haribosweets · 10/08/2025 22:28

I'm thinking about doing it too - 5 foot and 13 stone. What are your side effects? I'm also waiting for ADHD medication so not sure if the 2 can go together

Mounjaro is being trialed as a ADHD medication. Many people find it slows their mind and improves symptoms of ADHD.

PersephoneParlormaid · 11/08/2025 07:23

I don’t think it’s cheating OP, those that do have never experienced food noise.
Im peri age, I exercise 2/3 times a week yet lose nothing, I gave up alcohol and lost nothing, it’s hard when your efforts aren’t rewarded.
I’m very tempted to try, to lose 3 stone and get into a healthy BMI.

Well done, I am so pleased it's been so transformative for you. Shame to hear about the stigma attached to taking it, a couple of friends are on it and sort of confessed it to me, which I thought was odd, until they told me some other people's reactions were less positive. Just shows, you can't win, stigmatised for excess weight and stigmatised for doing something about it. Ignore anyone who isn't cheering you on OP, you are doing great!

GiantTeddyIsTired · 11/08/2025 07:27

That's fantastic OP - I feel the same (currently 78 kg down from 106kg in just under a year - 'Overweight' is finally in sight after being morbidly obese pretty much my entire life).

I remember reading a post on here which said something like - in a year's time, would you prefer to be 4 stone lighter, or have 2k and I went, well, that's a no-brainer isn't it! And ordered MJ the next day.

They can but I would start the adhd med and not the WLI until the appetite suppressant effect of the adhd med wears off. It tends to last between 1-2 months

otherwise you may find you can’t eat and the weight falls off so fast you end up with lots of loose skin and massive hair loss.

StormyPotatoes · 11/08/2025 07:55

Well done, OP! I have also been on it on/off since Jan and I feel amazing.

That said, I’ve really struggled coming off. I reached my goal in April but each time I’ve tried to come off my appetite is sky-high and I find it increasingly hard to not pick any things I don’t want or need. I don’t know what the answer is.

The stigma is very real too. I have a friend who has just told me she’s been on Wegovy. She’s done amazingly and is very candid about it. I haven’t told her about this though because I still feel a bit ashamed which is ridiculous. We had other friends over a few weeks ago and one of them mentioned my weight loss asking if I’d been ill or on the ‘lizard juice’. I mean he’s not the nicest of people anyway and I tolerate him because I love his wife but it makes it really hard to talk about in real life.

Mounjaro is being trialed as a ADHD medication. Many people find it slows their mind and improves symptoms of ADHD.

I can see why it suppressed my impulsivity around food, shopping and going overboard when I went out - not totally, the ADHD meds have further helped.

narkyspirit · 11/08/2025 08:31

I began weight loss injections 26 weeks ago, tipping the scales at 96kg at 5'3" BMI at 37 like most I had been dieting and not seeing a difference. The nature of my work has always meant grabbing food on the run and generally not the most healthy options added to too much drinking.

A friend had begun WLI a few months earlier and had dropped 4 stone in as many months, so I decided why not give a it a go I was concerned about the 'side effects' but thankfully there hasn't been to many other than fatigue.. My IBS has improved mostly I think due to the change in eating habits.

Currently I'm 79kg and a BMI of 30.5 17.6% weight loss.

I had done 1x 2.5 pen, 2x5mg pens, 2x7.5 pens and am now using a 10mg pen.

I'm looking to get to around 70kg which should see me slightly heavier than I was 35 years ago which I will be happy with

good luck

Thank you everyone and well done to everyone else!

From forums etc, I do think I have sadly been in the minority for how long my side effects have lasted as I still experiencing them. These have included-
—extreme fatigue
-acid reflux
-vomiting
-nausea
-constipation (just started suffering with this, pray for me 🤣)
-brain fog

I have had to have sick leave from work twice since January (for 1/2 days at a time) as I just couldn’t function. This was when I very first started at when I went from 2.5mg to 5mg. I am currently prescribed 7.5mg as I only go up a dose when I need to but I have took 6mg last week and wil do again this week, I still had minor effects but less than 7.5. Although as I say, I think I’ve been unlucky as my colleague has had no symptoms since the first week!

Take two psyllium husk tablets each day they help with the constipation!
