I'll start:

Piano - lessons for years, can barely play a note
Bellringing - on and off for decades - getting overtaken by the teenagers
School governor - not sure I achieved much..

That's before we add the charities I have been on..

Maybe in a few years I can try walking football? But then, I was crap at "running" football when I was 10

Knitting, the tension becomes so tight I struggle to get it off the needles.
If I ever managed to knit a jumper I would have to use a size 16 pattern to make a size 10.

I cannot grow lettuce.

I can grow pretty much any fruit, nut, veg or other salad items, but I have never managed to get a single leaf of lettuce in over 30 years.

No idea why, but lettuce and I obviously have problems.

Every exercise class i do (and i go 6 times a week).
Shit at all of them!

Running. I’m slower than when I started 2 years ago, my heart rate still shoots right up. I still find it strangely enjoyable to plod along though.

Another who can't sew. I'm not bad at art and drawing but I've sewn since I was a teenager and don't get better. My OH is not artistic but he can sew well. I was meant to make the girls some costumes for playschool but forgot. While I was away OH got the machine out and made two teddy bear outfits for them, better than I could do. He hadn't sewn before. Said it was a simple case of following instructions.

I do a weekly dance class, tai chi and art, and rubbish at them all! But I do my best 😀

Anything that requires coordination or the knowledge of left and right. Can't ride a bike, catch a ball or ice skate.

CardiCorgi · 10/08/2025 17:52

@goodthinking99me too. In my head I am Katarina Witt and Torville and Dean combined. In reality, middle-aged Bambi on ice.
It‘s not as though I’m not sporty, just not this sport.

EssentiallyDecluttering · 10/08/2025 17:56

Cycling for me. I can ride a bike just, but I have to clamber on and keep my left foot on the ground (preferably kerb) as I push down with the right foot to start pedalling, wobble if I take my right hand off the handlebars, can only ride an upright bike not one with racing style handles, I can't stand on the pedals.

I can crochet and garden with ease though.

Pickleball. Been playing for a year and a half. Sometimes I think I am actually pretty good. Then an annoying man in his mid 60s comes along and gives me unsolicited advice and criticism and makes my play time miserable.

I give myself internal chat to say everyone makes mistakes and they do. So whatever you think you're crap at, everyone makes mistakes. No one's perfect.

This thread makes me feel so much better!
Mine are: sewing- I love the idea of making things, but I’m too slap dash.
Painting- even paint by numbers is messy, and I rarely finish them.
Tried scrapbooking, but didn’t have the eye for it.

Or just use bigger needles!
