Shouldn't a robot hoover (Eufy) last longer than a millisecond?

It's early and I'm grumpy, but I'm totally fed up with tech just dying so quickly, clothes becoming tatty after a wash, and furniture going wonky after it's moved once from room to room.

Our Eufy robot hoover just stopped working 4 weeks after the one-year warranty expired. I know products have a designed obsolescence now, but come on - 13 months on fairly low usage?

Bought DC some underpants and after one wash they were ragged and faded. Mine from m&s lost their elasticity after a few years.

I'm moody but why us everything so crap? I'm sweeping the kitchen floor with a broom today.

Check out consumer rights - even if eufy only give a 1 year warranty you have rights to expect repair, replacement or refund within a much longer time period. Money Saving Expert website will help.

Not sure it applies to underwear though 😁

Lol, yes. I've put DH on it as he bought it but we both hate arguing with companies (well, everyone does I think)

After the underwear debacle I now keep receipts for everything and will take stuff back if this happens.

Our eufy has been going for 6 years, it broke down last year but was easily fixable with a YouTube video, when you open them up there are quite simple. A year after purchase though and I'd be calling them

legolegoeverywhereandnotadroptodrink · 10/08/2025 08:50

My eufy handheld died after similar time

customer service was useless

eufy stopped making hand held vacuums so i bought a shark instead

Peonyperfection · 10/08/2025 08:54

My 1st eufy broke down just over a year, when I bought it Amazon had a longer guarantee and replaced it, with no argument at all. I don’t think they offer the guarantee anymore, I guess too many returns.

YANBU, it's infuriating and wasteful. I'd love to be able to fix stuff myself. Pants are annoying but I tumbledry them through winter so accept it. Tech I buy from CeX because they have a five year warranty. Admittedly, though, I wouldn't want a secondhand hoover/hairdryer/headphones though they do sell those as well

I keep receipts for everything now too. Things like underwear HAVE to last a year otherwise I take them back.

It's awful that hardware is programmed to stop working a few weeks after the warranty runs out - how is that even legal?

Does John Lewis still do an extended warranty?

That's what they rely on!

DH has had some luck using Resolver - may be worth a try.

Or claim through your c/card if you used it to pay with.

As a family we were a big fan of CEX but they have just refused to honour their warranty on an item less than 2 years old. Claiming accidental damage which it isn't, then when challenged (politely by email) moved on to wear and tear. The shops passed us onto head office and we had to send photos, so they haven't even seen the item.

We have an eufy X10 Pro Omni that is 18mths old and still going strong. Have you checked nothing is stuck inside, the internal bag isn't full or not filters needs cleaning or replacing? I'd still be calling the company to see if anything could be done. Its very frustrating though when things stop working or brake so soon after purchase.

DH swears by step one underwear. They are pricy, but last. They also do womens and children's underwear, but I'd never tried them.

Yanbu

Signed, owner of a broken bed which broke 3 months after being bought 🙃

YANBU at all op.

It seems to happen a lot in our household too. I'm sick of products failing, or not doing what they are supposed to do. I've started buying electrical goods from an actual shop like Currys or Argos. That way I can walk back in with the product if it fails. It's not always the cheapest option compared to Amazon etc, but it has paid dividends over the past couple of years. If I'm not happy with anything, I just take it back. No faffing with emails etc. I'm quite ruthless these days as I'm so sick of wasting money.

I have been looking at robot vacuum cleaners recently, I might not bother after reading your post. I hope you can get it fixed.

I too have gone back to shopping in real life rather than the internet for no other reason than i can go back into the shop with the item and insist someone does something about the faulty product.

Robert vacuums are no better or worse than traditional ones for reliability in my experience.

John Lewis used to give a 3 year warranty on ALL electrical goods purchased via them but this has been reduced to 2 year warranty now. Still better than the one year warranty every one else offers.
