Good Morning All! What's everyone doing today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, after a nice lie in snuggled up with boy cat. Both cats have had their breakfast & taken themselves off back upstairs. I can hear dd2 moving around so guessing at least one of them has gone in her room.

We haven't got any plans for today I don't think. I've nearly finished all the peg dolls that were requested before summer, for my previous class, so will finish details on my current set and then draw out the last set. I've got a pair of trousers to take up, and a pair to let down, too. I'll at least pin the ones to take up, at some point today. And I might strip the chair cushions while there's no washing to be done 🤔.

We booked tickets yesterday to a seaside music festival at the end of the month, so I'll have a listen to some of the artists I don't know through the day. I'm going to hazard a guess that dd2 will want to discuss what to wear too - she doesn't come to as many gigs (by choice!).

Dd1 will have no plans - surprisingly she's had a very quiet summer! I expected her being out and about with friends but she hasn't 🤷‍♀️. It's A Level results day on Thursday & she was starting to feel nervous but she's made a start on the UCAS application for next year after deciding to take a year out to save...saving is not her strong point.

Dd2 will do more revision, and probably some more of the 80 or so tasks that were set for Spanish. She's done something every day despite being told to take a day off every now & again. Her brain must be full 🤣!

What about all of you? 🙂

I’ve had a coffee and walked the dog. Schools go back here this week and I’ve got a couple of things to buy for the new school year, I’ll be taking DD14 shopping for school shoes. She has tiny feet and can never find school shoes that she likes, so that’s going to be fun.

I’ve got some house chores to do and I want to start a new crochet blanket - I’m teaching myself so will be looking up you tube etc. I want a new craft project for going into autumn, despite having half a dozen cross stitch things on the go. The new school year always feels like a new start for me, more so than new year.

I totally agree. I always feel like it's a fresh start when the kids go back 🙂

Good morning @lucysmam and the Saturday crew.

I have been up since before 7 as usual. Did all my puzzles with a cuppa and then had breakfast of toast. Put some washing in and went out for a walk. On a bit of a mission to walk every day and am lucky we have some lovely walks here although I tend to do the same one each day.

No big plans today. My sister and her family are coming to stay in Monday for the week so I’m getting the house ready for that. So today I’m cleaning the kitchen and doing the downstairs floors and dusting the hall, living room and trying to find the worktops in the utility room. Every time I find them the disappear under a pile of crap within days!

I did spot the CF thread yesterday. Might save it to read properly later once my jobs are done.

@Unsettledtoday - it’s definitely not about changing beds. It’s in Trending and called something like Most Impressive CF Ever,

Good morning Lucys mam and everyone else. Been a while since I updated on our own weekend. I just usually read through and try to envisage you all what you look like in your houses with your families doing your things.

We are literally just getting over a horrendous bug. Everyone except for the youngest 2 children of 6 have been extremely ill. My husband never gets sick, thank God. But we have all been going down like dominos for 9 days now. Two of the kids have really weak immune systems. So for the middle girl, she was bouncing about the next day, but the oldest 3 have been sick for days.

Im starting to feel slightly better, saying that I get up and then start feeling poorly again. However, I have come into a bit of money lately, so have been using that to buy rugs, carpets, new kitchen bin, utensils, 2 air fryer, cooker, mats for the landing and hallway, flowers, candles, vases, new phone and case, repair the car, new pants and dresses for me, some tops for the hubby, some makeup and chocs, treats and new toys for the kids, some nice food shopping as well, earrings. I just splashed the cash. And trust me I've been on a budget for a long time and with the 6 kids, its tough but this new job has been really great with a bonus as well and working from home has been a real blessing from God.

So, I've got a lot being delivered over the weekend, and this coming week, I've really let the house go big time because if this bug the house looks dreadful. My plan today is to clean as much as I can and organise, book a dump run, tidy the garage from my previous home business and look at to sell the rest of the stock in bulk for cheap.
I also plan to look at places for the next couple weeks, wildlife parks and soft plays for the kids to enjoy. The almost 18 year old has declared he's not wanting to come to the wildlife park because he's too big for it now. But I told them they have wolves there and they're his favorite so now he's on board. He said its a definite no to the soft play, however he adores his toddler brother and I know for sure watching him frolicking around in a ball pool, my eldest shoes will come off top and he will be there as well haha.

Lunch will be egg noodles
Dinner homemade lamb kebabs for the husband and the kids and firecracker chicken salad for me and youngest girl as we dont eat lamb !

Have a lovely day everyone .

Morning all, I’ve been pottering and cleaning. I have a bit of work to do later. As well as a dog walk and a swim planned, not at the same time! I’m planning stir fry for tea. Just me today dc with their dad appreciating the peace for now but it can go the other way.

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I've had a 'bit of a morning' so far.....

Our kitchen tap has had what started as a drip, and then became a steady trickle, so we managed to get our friendly neighbourhood plumber in to look at it this morning. As we're also hosting 'family lunch' today, to celebrate my son-out-law's birthday, that meant getting up early to get everything done and the kitchen cleared before our plumber arrived at 9.30. He was, unfortunately, unable to fix the tap and it now doesn't turn off at all which meant that, as the isolator to the tap is also the isolator to the dishwasher, we were going to be completely without dishwashing facilities until we could buy a new tap and our plumber could come back on Monday evening. Luckily I had a brainwave.... the basin tap in our downstairs shower/loo/utility is actually a kitchen tap, so he has now removed that one and is fitting it in the kitchen... which means we will be able to use both the sink and the dishwasher... phew! I will have to send our grandsons upstairs to use the loo because I know they're not going to bother to wash their hands in the kitchen afterwards... but grown ups can make their own choices.

So - our plumber is just finishing off in the kitchen. Mr Dilemma will be going to collect our lunch guests in about half an hour. I will then finish off lunch. For those who are interested - we are having sugared pork (my own made up recipe which involves shoulder of pork marinated in brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, a dash of tomato sauce, lots of garlic and some honey, then slow cooked), home-made coleslaw, tomato and onion salad, green salad, bread rolls and potato wedges. Followed by lemon drizzle cake as requested by the birthday boy.

Then this afternoon we will have family here for a few hours before Mr Dilemma takes them home again, after which we will both be completely knackered and will need a nap!

Doggo got me up at 7am for her breakfast and trip out back. Returned to bed then up again at 9 - she’s almost 14 I think has less control. So had a bit of porridge tidied the kitchen now back lazying in bed! Walkies soon. My DD about to head out for a driving lesson and not sure what we’ll do this afternoon. She’s redecorating her bedroom and we got all the paints etc the other day. She’s going to be painting different patterns on the sloping ceiling and wardrobes and part of her bed - she’s a maximalist! Dinner - I want takeaway! Maybe the never ending search for a decent Chinese….

swampwitch0 · 09/08/2025 11:59

Dropped dd2 to work.
Older dd wanted some euros for her trip to Europe next week.
Dropped in to see mum.
I'm making an apple crumble later as my neice is coming to see us.
Two loads of washing on the line.
I think that's pretty much all I'm up to today!
😀🥧

lucysmam · 09/08/2025 12:32

@Judgejudysno1fan your shopping spree sounds fun! I'm very much looking forward to buying pretty things when we move. What was your previous business (I'm just being nosey, don't feel like you have to answer!).

@DilemmaDelilah your pork sounds very tasty 😋. We have no sink/tap in the downstairs loo - most folks do use the kitchen one.

@swampwitch0 crumble's a good idea! Although dd2 had a baking day on Thursday so there are plenty of treats for the moment.

Hello @lucysmam and everyone, thanks for starting my favourite thread again this weekend.
Got up, had a bath and washed my hair, then didn't know what to have for breakfast so ended up with coffee and an apple.
DH loaded the car with all his rubbish from the back garage 'hangar' as he calls it, then we went to the tip with it. Was fairly busy so must be the Saturday morning thing.
Then went to the Co-op for milk and bananas. Considered having breakfast out but the pub next to the Co-op doesn't do it, and nowhere else nearby. Went to the Spar to get something I need for a competition, as not normally near it.
Came back, sorted out sausage and scrambled egg for DH, DD and I. They also had toast, I had beetroot and chopped onion with mine. Then I ate a load of strawberries from the fridge as I was still hungry.
DS went off out to Screen on the Green (free summer films in the City Centre).
DD hasn't had a weekend off for ages so we're waiting to see what the weather does, then hopefully off out on a bike ride - sthg else we've not done for ages!
Have I done anything else....oh yes, stuck a load of washing in and had a coffee and a yummy Ritter Sport rum, raisin and hazelnut bar.
This is because DD isn't actually dressed yet....lol.
Thought about entering some competitions but actually just scrolling Mumsnet, off to read what everyone else is doing now!

Rowgtfc72 · 09/08/2025 12:37

Afternoon !
Got a food festival thing going on down our seafront so had a little wander down there with dh and the sausage dog. May have accidentally bought some brownies.
Took said sausage to the dog shop and got him a tenners worth of pick and mix.
Doing very little this afternoon.

Good luck to your dd with the A levels @lucysmam .

lucysmam · 09/08/2025 12:38

@Rowgtfc72 pick-n-mix for the sausage dog?

Forgot to add, DD is also awaiting A level results and planning to take at least a year out as she doesn't know what she wants to do yet; she's working at both a soft play and a supermarket currently.
We've been looking round to see what restaurants etc have on offer for results day; Zizzi, for example, have this on their website
Results Day just got better.

Show your 2025 exam results at Zizzi and you’ll get an envelope with a surprise inside. Every envelope is a winner – from free Mozzarella & Garlic Bombes to starters, desserts, drinks, or even a meal for you and your mates worth up to £150.
📅 Claim your prize on Results Day or the day after.

  • Scotland: 5 – 6 August
  • A-Levels: 14 – 15 August
  • GCSEs: 21 – 22 August
Bring your results (paper or digital), open your envelope in restaurant and see what you’ve won. T&Cs apply.
Rowgtfc72 · 09/08/2025 12:47

Rather nice dog store. Lots of little baskets full of two for and three for offers.
Rabbit ears, venison sausages, liver sticks. Etc. I don't let the doggo choose by the way.😁

I sold clothes from the houses invited families over to have a look through. I invested in a warehouse command basically bought in bulk items from all shops high street and designer and sold on for half the price or even less both womens and kids. Now looking to shlepp the rest to someone who might want to sell on vinted or carboot ot whatever, with my new health specialist job, I can't do it all. And the amount of gear cluttering the house, is driving me nuts. But I can't fathom throwing it all in the dump. Ans it's too much to give to charity bins. It would be 20 trips to oxfam. And I dont have the time
