High blood pressure spike!!!

hello,
im really scared. Bit of background i usually have normal blood pressure. I took it yesterday and it was same range as always- 120/80.
i went to the gp today for a diabetes review & obviously she did height and weight. Then she moved to blood pressure. It was a very hot day & i was wearing a baggy hoodie & had drank a monster energy drink 4ish hours before. My blood pressure had shot up to 160/100 and the bottom number reached like 106 at one point.
i was so shocked and scared as ive never had problems with blood pressure. I had a huge panic attack once at hospital and my blood pressure shot to 180/120. It went down when I calmed myself down but it was traumatic. I suffer with anxiety that flares up badly sometimes & i have an extreme fear with the heart (Cardiophobia).
I did my blood pressure later at home and it had gone down to 130ish / 90 but still quite high for me. I am trying to calm myself down but I’m convinced im going to drop dead or have a massive heart attack.
i hope it’s a one off and im going to check it tomorrow when calm but does anyone have any advice/ help
im so scared , never had heart problems and im 25.

There is a thing called white coat syndrome. As soon as you get near a doctor it goes up. These days it's best to get your own monitor and do some readings at home when your calm. Note the results. Then you can give these to your GP.

You won’t drop dead of a heart attack, it’s an anxiety attack now. It will pass and your BP will go down. Keep an eye on it and if you’re worried in a few days, get in touch with GP again. What did she say when she saw it high? I have a lot of anxiety in medical settings with a fine dose of white coat syndrome when I see the monitor approach.

I reckon it varies unbelievably when you are stressed. Mine is usually fine but always goes up hugely at the doctor's. A couple of years back I had to go to the hospital expecting bad news and it was over 200! Back to normal after a couple of days at home.

Definitely agree with this...

OP, wondering how you got on in the coming months?

Sorry to resurrect this thread as it's months old now but I just had a high reading (always been normal in the past), 150 / 90. Same, cardiophobia. I've had a relentlessly stressful year. I'm not looking forward to taking more readings at home.

Doctor said not to worry too much but because it's over 140 she would just like me to take readings for a week to see if we can get a baseline. She also thought it might be a bit of white coat syndrome but not necessarily. I have been very dehydrated for the last 3 days due to a lot of work and poor timing, and looking after extended family members.

I'm just hoping it's a blip but think it's a bit high for a blip.

Curious what your's did over time if you don't mind sharing. Hope all well with you now :-)
