Puzzle book for bright pre-teen

My kid loved the GCHQ "Puzzle for Spies" book for kids and I'm after something else similar. We have the Scotland Yard Puzzle Book but he's not that impressed - does anyone have anything they'd recommend?

Ideally he likes a combo of maths, logic/reasoning and visual puzzles.

Murdle?

Have a look at Gareth Moore puzzle books.

Or how about verbal reasoning practise papers?

Or Murdle!

Ahh I forgot to say we tried Murdle Junior and weren't impressed, but maybe the grown-up one is better? It seemed to be all the same style puzzles, with a lot of waffle - he's not really interested in set-up 😁

I'll look at Gareth Moore though, thank you! He's been through some English and Maths workbooks for older kids and enjoyed those, but I could look for more logic-focused ones.

I was trying to remember the books I bought my DS but couldn't find them until today! They are called the Von Doogan puzzle books, by the illustrated magazine The Phoenix.

Most reviewers say the puzzles are hard; I remember finding them reasonably challenging and I love that kind of stuff.

This is the first time Google and ChatGPT completely failed me - I knew they were by The Phoenix but it gave me nothing, except puzzle books featuring phoenixes 🙄

Oh brilliant, thank you @AtomHeartMotherOfGod! What age would you say they're appropriate from?

Well officially they are 9-11 years, and I guess your DS is 11-12 years. Honestly, I do loads of escape rooms (quickly) and I did not find the puzzles a walk in the park. Your DS should still be challenged!

I realise though that they are not in print anymore (along with loads of 'The Phoenix Presents' books - sad!), but there are 'Very good' copies for sale on Amazon and WoB.
