Will I get charged the £200 now or do they send a bill?

I can't call them right now as at work so will have to be later when I get home but just wondering if anyone has left their broadband provider when you are still in contract when do you pay the rest that you owe?

I have not been happy since moving over to EE broadband and have wanted to get out of the contract for months but it was too expensive to do it, It's now down to £200 and I just want to leave now.

If I joined another provider today would I have to pay the £200 I still owe EE today or would I get a bill and have to pay it then? only reason I'm asking is I get paid on the 11th and could pay it then so wondering if I should just wait instead of doing it today?

Can they just take the money? If so I would wait if that would be a problem, if you have to send the money they can wait a few days.

Have you asked your new provider if they will help with the cancellation cost? A lot do.

Thanksman · 05/08/2025 12:26

By the way, when I left my old provider I cancelled my direct debit as soon as I was up and running with the new provider and put it in writing that I would send a cheque for the remaining balance.

Why are you unhappy with them? it migth be worth complaining and see if you can get a cancelation free/at a reduced cost.

My parents got out of their contact when the provider kept messing up the direct debit (can't rememeber who the provider was now!)

A lot of broadband providers pay the cancellation charges to get new customers. I’d mention to the new provider you are interested in them but still in contract with EE and see what they say.

EE are shit aren't they. I moved from BT to EE as they were cheaper but the service is appalling.

It's a lot slower than who I used to be with, If I go on youtube now the videos buffer for so long I decide to do something else instead! Twitter videos are unplayable. webpages take an age to load. and for the last week I have had no wifi at all or broadband as there's a problem with the router so I'm now using hotspot to connect until I can get it sorted.

I only went with them because I signed up for a contract for mobile and was really happy with them so thought the broadband would be good too, maybe it is for other people or maybe it's just my area but I can barely load a webpage never mind watch a video lol

Have you made complaints about this already? If so, you may get a reduced cancellation fee or possibly no fee at all. You weren’t getting the necessary service you were paying for.

I'd do as other have suggested and see if a another supplier will pay the fee for you 1st, as that will be quicker and easier. If that doesn’t work you should check your contract for you guaranteed speeds ( you will have 2 speeds one that they sell it with witch is "best endeavour" but you'll also have a guaranteed minimum speed for up and download)

Find this out and go to fast.com to check your speeds. if it's under let them know, and keep complaining until they either let you out of the contract or sort it out!

OP is already with ee and is leaving because of the shit service.

Ariela · 05/08/2025 13:19

Run a 'what's my speed' a few times and submit them as a complaint and let EE know that as they're not providing the service you need to move providers
