Sex headache. How can I avoid?

Last night, for the first time time in my life, I suffered from what I now know is called a coital headache. I had an orgasm and then immediately had a short, but severe pain in my head. It was terrifying but after it had subsided I looked it up and apparently it’s not uncommon. There have been various threads on here about it over the years too, but all of this was news to me.

But nowhere can I see tips about how to avoid them! I absolutely do not want another one.

I am 37, female, in good health, slim, exercise regularly, don’t smoke at all or drink overly. I was hydrated and not stressed. I have no idea why it happened and do not want it happening again. Any experts or fellow sufferers with tips?

This happened to me a couple of times unfortunately..
One Dr said (tmi?) it was the position allowing deeper penetration that touched my cervix..
And I noticed with the other time it was because there was pressure on my neck. (Because of position not DH pressure!)
Funnily enough I fainted during a smear test. And had extensive tests because of a suspected brain bleed but was probably neck spasms.. excruciating pain..
I'm now very very careful of the position of my neck..

I had it a couple of times. Not very nice but apparently there’s no association with bad health events. I took some paracetamol and slept it off and was ok, and then it hasn’t happened for a while.

Had them a couple of times, over many years, apparently they are more common in men than women and can be more likely if you have a history of migraine. Rarely serious, just unpleasant, generally just do whatever you would do for a bad headache, they often occur as a single episode and may never happen again

I’m not sure about ways to avoid them, but if you’ve just had one it may not become an issue. I’ve had this happen twice, maybe 3 times, over the last 10 years.
I am generally quite a headachey person.

I used to get them badly but now know how to manage them.
My advice is to make sure you drink water soon after but also lie down for at least half an hour after before you get up.
I have no medical training but this works for me. They’re horrible.

Thanks. Sorry you’ve had to manage them but glad you’ve found something that works for you.
I don’t think that would work for me though, if what happened happens in the same way again. The headache literally began immediately after I came. Within a second or two. And then had subsided to a much more manageable ache within a few seconds again. All very strange.
