Peeling feet

Can anyone give me advice on my DD12’s feet. The skin is peeling away all around her toes and ball of feet. It’s not sore but looks awful and obviously leaving raw new skin underneath so worried it will get sore. I’ve been moisturising nightly with her to heal them. I think it’s cause by damp feet from sports (she takes sweaty socks off after and just puts on fresh not drying her feet - I’ve explained she needs to ensure feet are dry).

Any ideas on how to resolve as it’s been 3 days and seems to be even worse tonight rather than better.

It’s probably athletes foot. Lamisil once should sort it out.

Mintearo7 · 03/08/2025 21:20

Agree, it’s probably fungal, try Lamisil or canesten cream.

PinkPhonyClub · 03/08/2025 21:21

Agree it sounds like athletes foot.

Moisturiser might make it worse as her feet will be soggy the whole time.

A good wash and dry and keep socks off as much as possible.

My son had this when he was a competitive gymnast . It wasn’t like athletes’ foot as it wasn’t itchy or sore and huge strips of skin came off . Was like a snake shedding its skin !!! Only stopped when he finished gymnastics at 16 !

RealLion · 04/08/2025 12:07

Thanks for the replies. I don’t think it’s athletes foot. There is absolutely no issues between the skin - it’s very much like Dublassie is describing bit strips of skin comming off.

Perhaps the moisturiser is making it worse - I thought I was doing the right thing with trying to keep the skin healthy. She’s washed and left feet to air today socks off as home today. Will see if improved.

Any more ideas would be welcome - I don’t feel equipped to deal with stuff like this as feel clueless 🙁

My child gets this. I encourage socks off as much as poss and have switched to cotton socks rather than horrid polyestery sports socks that he favours. He bloody loves a sock though, wears them with crocs and everything 🫣.
I don't think it's fungal, but we do have some athletes foot spray so will give that a go and see if it clears up - probably worth a try for your daughter too.

Socks off as much as possible

I’d remind her to dry feet properly and wash them properly with soap not shower gel either

can she tape her feet for sport?

autienotnaughty · 04/08/2025 15:44

My dd has this we think it’s eczema which she gets in other areas.

or the fact she rarely wears socks with shoes

Mamamia35 · 04/08/2025 16:13

Is this a new thing? Just wondering if she’s done one of those foot peel things and not told you.

O’Keefe’s healthy feet cream is brilliant.

What kind of trainers is she wearing - maybe you need to try some breathable ones like New Balance 530 or Nike 6000. They are mesh rather than fully enclosed. There’s also a Scholl antifungal shoe spray just in case it’s fungal. You can get that on Amazon.

RealLion · 04/08/2025 17:57

Thanks for the tips. I’ll try some of the recommended sprays. It’s a pretty new thing but I don’t think it’s fungal and isn’t between toes. She did admit she didn’t dry her feet properly after sweating at a sport and also after a long hike where she got soaking feet. I’m pretty certain she hasn’t done a feet peel or anything she’s not into self care much (that’s another issue). I’ll reiterate importance of washing and drying properly and lay off the moisturiser for a bit. Thankd

This sounds daft but is she changing her shoes every day or wearing the same ones all the time? I’m thinking about sports and trainers and how sweaty dd’s feet get. She’s older and has 3 or 4 pairs of trainers for sport that she swaps around so maybe try getting her another pair of trainers era so she can swap them out and give them a day off, as it were? To dry out properly?

The thing is, fungal infections are a bit random in presentation. You’d be wise to take her to a pharmacist if you don’t want to just buy OTC medications. At the moment you seem to be just guessing as to what is going on. I wouldn’t do that with a child tbh.
