Should I get this mole checked out?

Not sure whether to go to the Drs about this mole on my face. I think it’s grown a little bit, feels rough to touch and occasionally bleeds when I wash my face.

Should I get this mole checked out?

Yes, you should. Just to be sure. If in any doubt, always get it checked, especially since there's changes.

As a previous poster said, definitely get it looked at. You have mentioned a number of factors which indicate it could have changed into something of concern, but it could also be absolutely fine.

Please get it looked at, just to be on the safe side.

Of course!

Thank you for your replies. I saw the practice nurse at my doctors surgery.
She didn’t like the look of it so took some photos and sent them to the skin clinic. They have sent me a letter to say due to the moles position they are referring me to the Maxillofacial department at our hospital so I am waiting for that appointment. It looks like a basal cell carcinoma which doesn’t seem too scary😀

Good to know your practice is being proactive. FWIW, my DH had basal cell carcinoma over 10 years ago and it has not recurred.

Just had another BCC removed recently. On my lip below nose. I’ve had 6 removed now 😢. (Wouldn’t mind but I don’t sunbathe, hate heat, and have very low vitamin D that I have high does for. They think it happens because I was burnt in sun twice as a child (1960s) , took till I as mid 50s to start to appear.)

having them removed is fine. Local. Worse ones I had were under eye and they had to give local through mouth, bit uncomfortable. 🥴. I have mine done by MOHS now due to amount of scaring I have got with the buggers. And becuase I am deemed higher risk. Ask about that if it’s an option, as this is “gold standard” given where it is, although very few centres in country to do it.

Be warned, my last operation had waiting list of 77 weeks currently 😱 even once I’d seen plastics (and about 8 weeks to get to see consultant before that) …I was lucky that I have BUPA through work, and our local nhs MOHs centre runs a private clinic once per month , so I waited just 3 weeks. Win, win for me and nhs (private funds help fund the nhs clinic as well), same surgeon did it with BUPA, in same clinic, as I would have done going nhs. No idea what it cost though, as BUPA pays.

they may talk about skin graft if it’s large, I had one they were pretty certain they’d need to graft, but in the end they managed to pull skin togther enough. So don’t panic if you’re in this situation, they’ll do everything they can to avoid it,

I have one very long scar on my face, about 5cm (from first operation, non MOHs, I had) that needed a lot of massaging for 3-4 months post operation to smooth it out ..still has slight bump near nose but much better than was. So well worth keeping massage up once they tell you it’s fine to go ahead and do that. Latest one is 6 weeks old and looks just a bit red ..no sign of any scarring.

then keep a good eye out going forwards. Take photos as soon as you see anything even tiny… then take photos over next few weeks to show GP. Gives them good idea of progression, even I have been caught out thinking something is a small zit, and then suddenly realising it’s quite big and persistent and bleeding.

if you get them elsewhere on body (I have) there are now some chemotherapy creams (topical) you can be prescribed. Worked well for me. Agian best caught and treated really early on.

good luck

Low Vit D affects your immune response so it’s good you’re getting a high dose now.
