Just that really, DD starts school in September and I need a decent lunchbox

What does everyone use that lasts?!

Sistema bento box

Don’t send anything to school without it being named and that matters if it disappears.

Sistema tubs in a cool bag style zip bag (e.g. Polar Gear). It’s the only solution I’ve found that fits any combo/shape/size of food.

Perfect box for a sandwich

Small pots are really handy too

If your child is going into Reception in England, they are entitled to a free school dinner up to y2. Worth having at least a half term trial of the dinners while they’re free. Even the fussier children tend to just get on with them when all their friends are too.

Thank you, unfortunately she is off dairy and gluten at the moment whilst trying to help her severe eczema...because they aren't 'allergies' the GP won't write a letter to support and therefore the caterers won't do a dairy/gluten free menu for her 🫠🫠🫠 so looks like we have to go down the packed lunch route for now

Can recommend the Marks and Spencer gluten free bread- the big sliced one. This is the best one I feel.

What does she have for lunch at home and what do you think you might want to send in?

rainbowstardrops · 02/08/2025 09:26

Lunchbox wise, I’d suggest getting an insulated one and make sure you put little ice packs in there. Years ago when I was nannying, there was a campaign from a mum who lost her daughter from food poisoning after eating a ham sandwich I think that wasn’t kept cool enough. That really stuck with me and both of my children always had an insulated box.
Did you need advice on what food to put in it?

To be fair she will eat pretty much anything, we're lucky with that. Just want something decent to put it in, could be sandwiches / pasta etc, fruit etc etc. Just looking on suggestions on what has worked well and lasted lunch box wise.

Honestly, go for cheap and cheerful as it likely will get lost / broken / minging pretty quickly.
As a teacher I’ve seen some awful lunch boxes! Avoid zips, not too big, needs to be insulated.
