Night time chatterboxes on campsite!!

They have only just shut up and gone to sleep (I assume)! 3am! The kids will be up and about in just a few hours making loads of noise outside 😆😆

I was asleep from 10.30pm till 2am btw so they didn't affect my sleep thankfully, but I was surprised to wake up and still hear them chatting.

Quiet time is supposed to be 10pm till 7am.

Really selfish and I would be having a word with the campsite manager. I would also not be keeping my kids quiet if they were to wake early!

itsgettingweird · 02/08/2025 07:35

If you could only hear them chatting because you woke up I’m guessing they weren’t “noisy”.

I’ve camped loads throughout my life and people who want to stay up and chat don’t bother me. Those who make enough noise to keep you awake however …..

Thatcannotberight · 02/08/2025 08:16

We once camped on the Lizard in Cornwall next to a couple that had a very loud, very sweary argument and one of them drove away in their car at 3am. We were only there until the next morning, so no idea if they came back. 🤣

Inconsiderate. You get this in hotels too. I suppose noise travels more on a campsite.

Anewuser · 02/08/2025 08:20

I bloody love camping but haven’t be able to do it for years.

People like this have always made me curious. They sit up chatting shit to all and sundry, their kids wake up screeching early in the morning and then they wonder why they’re snapping at their kids all day.

Francestein · 02/08/2025 08:22

I would encourage loud chasing games and maybe some football or cricket right near their tent.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/08/2025 08:22

I find earplugs essential for camping.
I recently upgraded from the disposable foam ones to a nice pair of Loops I can sleep in. Worth every penny.

ExtremelyDivided · 02/08/2025 08:27

A bit inconsiderate, but not as bad as those who play music, that irritates me on campsites at any time of day.

Re: loops How do you know what size to get?

RandomMess · 02/08/2025 10:12

Loops come with different ear tips.

Personally I was disappointed with their noise blocking for sleeping.

Sandyoldelbows · 02/08/2025 10:16

very inconsiderate. I once posted a similar situation on here and got absolutely laid into - it then got picked up by the press and mnhq refused to remove the post even though it was identifying and I had previously posted about an awkward family situation ! All in all very stressful and upsetting. Speak to the campsite owner, just say you are sorry to be boring but could they have a gentle word.

RaininSummer · 02/08/2025 10:18

Lack of sleep because of late and early noise has to be one of the worst things about camping. Everyone is operating on different timescales.

Vintagefair · 02/08/2025 10:34

That is so annoying. I've stopped staying in anything other than really remote campsites because of all the noise. Staying at a site where people used the deafening hand dryer in the toilet block as they got up for a wee in the night night was the final straw for me.

I'm sure campsites didn't used to be like this before Covid. It either brought a noisier type of camper or I'm a grumpy old moo. Probably a bit of both.

EveryDayisFriday · 02/08/2025 10:37

Silicone ear plugs are a godsend on a campsite. It's the only thing to help me sleep from noisy people to squawking birds, 5am cows or roosters.

Soonenough · 02/08/2025 10:45

We were on a French site in a mobile . Next to
us was a Dutch family in a tent with 5 of them . No idea how they all fit . I admired the parents as they were so very efficient and cooked , cleaned as a great team . Kids were lovely too. However every morning at 6:30 am the father and kids played a growling and shouting game. So loud and inconsiderate no matter what time but at 6am unbearable . First morning I awoke scared shitless. Luckily just as I had enough they left .

springbabydays · 02/08/2025 22:24

Well they were up before 10am drinking beer! 🤣

We did not hold back on the noise, however my children were far too quiet and reserved imo.

Pleased to say they have direct neighbours either side tonight so maybe they'll curb the noise factor.

I am equipped with ear plugs if I need them (silicon - the best).

And it's quite a remote camp site! Nowhere near anything. Surprised how busy it's got, but then it's a weekend in August so....

I meant to add, we're actually in a caravan so for us to hear them I think they must be quite loud.

We are camping next week and I'm a bit worried. Silicon ear plugs do almost nothing for me!
We were kept awake once on a French campsite by a moron playing the guitar at about 3am (he was asked by the campsite to leave the next morning) and another time squawking crows woke us every morning at 4.45am...but obvs nothing could be done about them!

HardworkSendHelp · 02/08/2025 22:32

Just back from two nights on a camp site and my god people are inconsiderate. The craze for the kids was to shove a plastic bottle between the mud guard and the bike wheel. Makes the bike sound motorised. Up and down they went past us making this awful noise. Went on all evening and the mother sat opposite us passing absolutely no remarks. This morning was a screaming “Lily” how someone so small and cute could make so much noise. 🙈

LoudSnoringDog · 02/08/2025 22:35

We no longer camp but one year had a young couple engaging in loud sex every night for 3 nights.

Bellavida99 · 02/08/2025 22:41

The worst are the groups who sit outside chatting at a normal volume but every 15 minutes someone says something funny and they all burst out laughing. The loud laughter always occurs the second I’m dropping back off to sleep 🤣

HarrietSchulenberg · 02/08/2025 22:43

It sounds like they were more than chatting if they kept you awake in a caravan, which is inconsiderate. I'd rather have a quiet, conservational hum late at night, though, than screeching kids doing laps of my tent early in the morning, and I speak from experience of both.

CB2611 · 02/08/2025 23:15

I used to camp a lot in my younger years. I remember one night camping with a group of friends, at some silly hour, someone in another tent (who we didnt know) was telling a story but really going around the houses about it. One of my friends shouted "get to the fucking point!". They got to the point and I heard the whole campsite breath a sigh of relief. Its one of my favourite camping memories 😂

Elderflower14 · 02/08/2025 23:41

Pre Wilf.. DH and I went camping near Hay on Wye. I woke up at 1am to this loud roaring noise and was terrified. Put my hand out for DH.. He was outside having a fag. The noise was an RAF Galaxy plane flying down the Wye Valley. A group of Dutch tourists were apparently running around the site telling everyone it was a UFO!!

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 02/08/2025 23:42

It’s completely obnoxious to be making noise after 11pm on a campsite
