Has anyone done LighterLife and kept the weight off?

I did it, lost 2 stone and then put back on 5. The same happened to someone else I know.

Has anyone actually kept the weight off?

I kept it off for 2 years. But life got in the way and gradually I put it on. I have lost it on mounjaro now and am determined not to put it back on.

Lafufufu · 01/08/2025 07:44

Lost 4 gained 5.5 kept it out for a couple of years with bizarre / restricted eating

There was a woman on here recently insisting she'd be different and she has a AI plan to help.

No amount of explaining it was the least healthy / worst thing I'd ever done to my body made any impact.

My metabolism is destroyed.

Honestly they are awful I wish id never heard of them

A friend of mine did Lighter Life back in the summer of 2006 - there must be some good in the program because of its sheer longevity!!

From what I remember it was expensive even back in 2006 - £270 a month ? Abd everything was powder based and looked a bit unappetising but got excellent results !

Goldenmemories · 01/08/2025 07:57

There's probably sunk cost fallacy going on there. People don't want to quit when they're spending ridiculous amounts on shakes. It doesn't address your relationship with food though. That's the problem and why people put all the weight back on.

TuesdaysAreBest · 01/08/2025 08:06

I know someone who is painfully thin years on from doing it. If that’s the goal, then I guess it "works".

Although I’ve never done it I can totally understand the sunk cost fallacy thing

TaborlinTheGreat · 01/08/2025 08:18

Not specific to Lighter Life though. Diets very rarely work long-term. Most people put the weight back on and more.

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/08/2025 08:21

Statistically most diets lead to greater weight gain afterwards, something like +95%. Diets where you’re eating in a way that is so different to how you’d normally eat are going to be the worst for this.

BrunchBarBandit · 01/08/2025 08:32

I lost the same 5 stone and put it back on again 4 times over 13 years with Lighter Life. I never exceeded my original start weight though and it’s been by far the easiest way to lose weight fast without being hungry.

BUT

I have completely buggered how I eat and I think also how my body responds to calories. I never learnt how to do eat the right amount of nutritious food and now I’m on Mounjaro and trying to learn this properly. MJ is much harder than LL. For me anyway. The weight is coming off slowly - only 35lb in 1 year (I say ‘only’ compared to reports from other people which are higher rates of loss)

I plan to be on MJ for at least another year if not longer. And doing the work of counting calories and nourishing my body.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to do LL - weight loss needs to be a long game not a quick fix

Hippywannabe · 01/08/2025 08:37

I lost 6 stones in 6 months on a similar plan. It's very easy after the 1st week. I then had an unexpected close bereavement and have regained it all.
I am trying to get my head around doing it again- a local warehouse recently had the chocolate shakes from Lighterlife on sale for 150 packs for £5.50. I bought 3 boxes!

1699forsomevitaminswtf · 01/08/2025 08:43

Thanks for your replies. And at least it’s a bit of a relief to know that I’m not the only one who thinks my metabolism is screwed. £5.50? That’s quite a discount.

I was quite strong and muscular before and now I feel like Jabba the Hut from Star Wars as all the weight has come back on as fat.

I couldn't believe the price-it is a just out of date/short dates warehouse but they are all fine. I have gotten Slimfast products there too.
Seriously thinking of getting back on it agsin.

1699forsomevitaminswtf · 01/08/2025 22:42

Where is it?

OP posts:
VexedofVirginiaWater · 01/08/2025 22:57

Did it about 18 years ago and put it back on - as well as lost loads of hair which never came back properly. So now I'm not only fat but have thin hair on the crown of my head.

Honestly, I just wish I wasn't such a pig!

RobertaFirmino · 01/08/2025 23:15

These diets are all very well but shakes do nothing to install healthier eating habits and this is what is needed for sustained change. How do you feel about Mounjaro etc.?

activecurtains · 01/08/2025 23:16

I lost 3 stone on Cambridge/121 diet (which is essentially the same thing) and I did regain it but it was over a period of 10 years. In a way, I consider that a success as it wasn’t an immediate regain.

I’m now on Mounjaro and slowly working my way back down.

I would never do it.

Why would you never do Mounjaro? It’s absolutely fantastic. I work in a hospital and I’d say at least 50% of nurses and drs are on it. So much better for you than lighter life and Cambridge diets.

Hippywannabe · 02/08/2025 13:29

Interestingly, a friend came around last night and said she starts mounjaro next week.
I was surprised as we have spent years doing slimming world etc together.
I don't think I can do the injections due to not having a gallbladder but have weighed myself this morning and am going to use my shakes with a low calorie, high protein meal a day.

I’m going to screenshot this and show it to my GP next time they talk to me about being overweight and saying I should know more about nutrition and well being.

Oh can't you have the injection if you have had your gallbladder removed?

Edit: Actually, it looks as though you can - I googled and this MN thread came up:
Mounjaro if gallbladder removed | Mumsnet

loopyloulou87 · 02/08/2025 15:20

You do need to know about nutrition and well being. You eat extremely healthily on Mounjaro. It surpresses your appetite so your not snacking or craving unhealthy options. I’ve never eaten so well! While on it I’d pick a salad instead of a McDonald’s 100% of the time.
Its not a magic drug if you still eat still shit then it won’t work, the difference is you don’t want to eat the shit.

Thanks for linking that. For me, any risk with my liver is too much so I am going to stick with my shakes and a low calorie diet. It will be interesting to see any losses compared to my friend. Last time that I did the New You Plan (similar to Lighterlife), I stuck to it religiously and lost 4 stones in 12 weeks. I am going on holiday 12 weeks from tomorrow!

Disturbia81 · 03/08/2025 00:08

I did a cheaper version and kept it off 6 years and counting (9 stone) I needed the strict regime so I could get away from food. Once weight was lost I just ate healthily

GEM3MEG6 · 04/09/2025 23:13

I did lighter life 15yrs ago and kept the weight off for about 5 yrs, developed a thyroid disorder put it back on then lost it with treatment and stayed roughly a 12,14 until recently due to health issues and being immobile so I'm doing it again. When I first did it u got weekly counselling sessions in person which were fantastic and I think that was the key part to address your relationship with food.
