How did you get rid of molloscum?

So much conflicting advice, please vote and share your wisdom.

Dd6 had hers for 2 years but it was just one small area on her leg so it wasn't bothersome. It got irritated after 2 years, then disappeared.

Unfortunately during that weepy phase I will still bathing both DCs together so now dd3 has them.

Only about 10 spots at the moment but spread out everywhere (4 on torso, 1 on back, 1 on leg, 3 in armpit, 1 on neck) so I'm worried that if each area starts to spread she will be covered.

I feel careless for letting her get it so would love to do my best to sort it. Help!

My DS’s was awful and he had one huge very visible one. Out of desperation we tried Molludab when nothing else had helped over two years. They all went within two weeks, I wish I’d tried it sooner. Persistence is key with Molludab, once you start don’t stop until they’ve all got irritated.

Thank you ! How long did it take with molludab and does it hurt? Do you have to apply it everywhere? I was hoping if it sorts one out then the immune system might take care of the rest?

Molludab, but get a very thin paint brush and use that instead of the applicator.
they need a tiny, tiny drop on each spot. Beware it stings, sadly. Morning and night.

I also sprayed colloidal silver when they couldn’t take the stinging. I have no idea if that worked but they went soon after a few weeks. They start popping up once you start treating so get on them as soon as a tiny spot appears and they go quickly.

It’s a bit like whack-a-mole, but keep going!

Mandarinaduck · 31/07/2025 22:49

Went to a dermatologist and had them scraped off.

HansHolbein · 31/07/2025 22:51

Molludab. A very long time ago now so can’t remember the ins and outs or how long it took, sorry.

HorseMadChild · 31/07/2025 22:53

My eldest had it for years. The GP advised lightly scratching the top of each spot. It prompts the body to get rid of it. It worked thankfully.

I really believe in the theory of that and want to use that approach but I'm worried about making it worse and spreading it.
How did you make sure the virus didn't spread when damaging the spots?

I'm pretty sure the 'mother' one is the one on her back, so worst case scenario, if she ends up with a cluster there it isn't the worst place.

Doesn't it go away by itself eventually?

Katesam2016 · 31/07/2025 23:35

My DD had it all over her bottom and back of her legs for most of last year. I read to try benzoyl peroxide (which I had in as I have always used it to dab on spots) I was really careful not to get it on any “good” skin and it just cleared 🤷🏼‍♀️

It does but could spread like wildfire if unlucky (never happened to eldest DD, she only ever had the one patch, but I can already see it spreading on youngest, up her chin and towards her face too).

I'm wondering if treating 10 spots now may save us months/years of it getting worse before it heals.

Did you apply it once a day? Does it hurt?

I've ordered molludab after reading lots of reviews and am hoping I can apply it in her sleep to avoid the stinging.

DD had it on the backs of her thighs for several months. In the end they were livid and red, and itchy and DD was very self conscious about it.

The GP prescribed antibiotic cream, and, surprisingly, it cleared it up.

I know molloscum is viral, but DD's were quite inflamed (and the GP suspected slightly infected) and in treating the bacterial infection, gave he molluscum a chance to heal. They were completely gone within 2 or 3 weeks.

GreenGrass33 · 31/07/2025 23:48

My two had it, probably for just over a year each. Then one day it just cleared up.
you need to create an alert in the body so the immune system knows they are there. After a bath I used to rub the spotty areas very vigorously with a crunchy towel to aggregate the spots. The kids didn’t even notice what I was trying to do.

We applied it for about 10 days. We still used it once they looked a bit angry but the skin wasn’t broken and basically stopped once they showed signs of starting to scab. Within two weeks they had all gone including a huge one.

NewbieYou · 31/07/2025 23:54

My mother scraped them off herself (25 years ago). I still have the scars!

we applied it morning and night for about a week or so then just once a day after for another week or so as they had massively improved. The brand I had in was acnecide. Additionally I did buy the wash for the bath too and I bought their moisturiser as I was worried about it completely drying her skin out.

Ohreallyreally23 · 31/07/2025 23:56

I used a sterile sewing needle to pop the biggest ones. Got the 'pearl' out. This seemed to male their body realise it was there and it healed up.

thaegumathteth · 01/08/2025 01:15

Reyes silver and Molludab to no affect

scratched the biggest spot and it became inflamed. Then they slll went.

Oblomov25 · 01/08/2025 07:14

Used molludab and popped a couple of the big ones to try and get the body to react. It worked.

myplace · 01/08/2025 07:22

There’s definitely something about annoying one of them that works. It’s like they hit a crisis point and then go.

MolloscumDefeater · 11/08/2025 22:20

I'm back again. I started molludab yesterday so hopefully it will help but would love some reassurance to get me through! They seem to be spreading fast on DD, and I think I can even see one under her eye (won't use the Molludab there of course).

I know it's so vain but she's the cutest little thing, with beautiful skin and I am panicking that she will soon be covered in them 😪

How bad can they get? Does it depend on her immune system? Hers is usually good but she does always seem to get rashes quite easily, I think her skin is sensitive.

She currently has dozens of red marks all over her chest and all over her bottom as well. I thought it was a viral or heat rash at first but they seem to be turning into molluscum.

A new one has also popped on the eldest when hers had cleared.

It seems it will never end.

My daughter had them (about 15 years ago) and I ended up putting plasters over them as they were on her neck and I was terrified they would spread to her face. I’m sure the plasters helped stop the spread. One of them popped inside the plaster - it may have got a bit squashed - and I think that helped wake up her immune system because they went away surely after.

Ineedaweeinpeace · 11/08/2025 22:36

we used something called cozerol. Worked quickly but you need to have a bedsheet you don’t mind throwing away after two weeks and a few tshirts for them to sleep in as it’s red and stained.
