What should I clean my quartz worktop with?

Newly installed. I just use hot soapy water currently but can I use anti bacterial spray
if necessary? Read somewhere about residue build up not being great.

Method glass cleaner

whynot90 · 31/07/2025 15:48

Agree, glass cleaner after wiping over to give a nice finish.

“Barkeepers friend” to remove stains and mineral oil to polish it up.

The barkeepers spray removes everything I’ve ever tried it on! It doesn’t smell particularly pleasant, but definitely works.
I buy it from amazon as I’ve never seen it for sale anywhere else. There is a paste BKF too, but not tried that.

I use bar keepers powder occasionally but usually just kitchen spray.

Tinkerbell7777 · 31/07/2025 15:56

I use the Mrs Hinch antibacterial kitchen sprays, they don’t leave a residue or smear and they all smell lovely. I also use the pink stuff if I ever have small stains.

Bluevelvetsofa · 31/07/2025 16:01

You can but quartz and granite cleaner, but Barkeepers Friend does the job and a wipe over generally.

TheNuthatch · 31/07/2025 16:06

I was advised by the installer to stick with ph neutral cleaners. I emailed Method at the time, and they advised their multi purpose cleaners were ph neutral but not the anti-bac sprays.

I use barkeepers friend powder on stains. For day to day cleaning I use method multi purpose, or Astonish pomegranate anti bac, which is ph neutral.
I sometimes clean it with cif cream if it's looking dull. That seems to bring the shine back.

QuartzIlikeit · 31/07/2025 17:07

I was told not to use any anti bac spray on quartz as it affects the finish of it over time.

Ive always use the orange method spray as its not anti bac, smells lovely & keeps everything looking lovely.

I do use bafkeepers frie d for stains but it absolutely reeks so don't use it for general daily cleaning.

LuckyCharmz · 31/07/2025 17:09

I use Purdy and Figg spray, bleach on any stains, Viakil around the taps.

AmIAloneInThinking · 31/07/2025 17:13

Just use any regular cleaning spray and Bar Keepers Friend for stains.

Edited

I did hear that. I’m thinking for cleaning eg chicken juices or something and I would usually anti bacterial spray it! Where I need to properly clean it rather than get stains off or polish it.

I just use hot soapy water and then dry with a clean tea towel. Occasionally Barkeepers Friend for a turmeric stain. Had the quartz about 10 years and no problems with that as a cleaning system - I’m not keen on buying extra products where we can avoid it.

QuartzIlikeit · 31/07/2025 17:36

@EachpeachpearplummI still only use the orange method for raw meat etc. I spray & then wipe with a microfiber cloth that's been rung out in really hot water - always been fine (I mainly cook from scratch so I have alot of raw meat splashes etc on a daily basis).

Curry is the worst stain ever & barkeepers friend is the only thing that works on this!

Thanks will look into the method spray. Do you have a pic or link of it?

I have been using anti-bac on mine for 7 years - never knew it was an issue - and it looks absolutely fine 🤷

We recently moved to a house with quartz which was really dulled by a build up of cleaning products. A friend recommended Barkeepers friend and it was magical. I now just use soap and water and buff it up with a cloth. Looks great.

MatildaTheCat · 31/07/2025 17:56

For stains like curry I have those little magic sponges which are probably full of nasty chemicals but do work.

GasPanic · 31/07/2025 18:33

I use one of those yellow sponges with the green scouring pad (plastic) to get rid of stains. I think the pad is soft enough not to damage the resin while being hard enough to remove the stains. I never rub that hard.

I wouldn't use any paste or abrasive cleaner because you never know how hard the particles are in it. If they are harder than the resin they will scour it if you rub hard enough.
