Early Saturday morning walk

pinenuts75 · 30/07/2025 14:44

Does anyone walk to work early by themselves at 5.30am on a Saturday morning? Just wondering how safe it would be, especially as dark mornings are coming, it’s kind of ok in the week as people are going to work.

You posted about this a few weeks ago. How can anyone give you a sensible answer if you won't tell us where you live or what the route's like?

I did say what the route was like and I was made a laughing stock out of

What bothers you about Saturday in particular? I think this is why people are struggling to advise you.

Because I guess more people work early in the week, rather than a Saturday so less cars/people about

But why is this a problem? Are you worried about a serial killer grabbing you and there'll be no witnesses?

I used too - training for a half marathon. Left the house approx 4.30am.in the dark and back home by 7am when it was light. I used to meet people drunk getting out of taxis after clubbing which was a bit intimidating as used to approach me. I also used to walk to work in the dark at 6.30am during all seasons including through dodgy areas.

I don't do it now and not sure I would due to safety aspect

Used to start work at 6am. Personally I wouldn't. It doesn't matter if it's light or dark but it gets very scary around Christmas, all the nuts come out for some reason!

I was chased and propositioned when going to my job for a 6am start. Your issue is men, not serial killers.

Yes I am up walking at 5.30 every morning across unlit fields 365 days a year.

I've been attacked by men at 2am but you can't let these experiences shape your life. I agree men are the issue and it sucks that women feel scared to step out in the early hours. However many women (me included) go to work or go for a run at that time and 99.9% are safe.

I’m sure you asked this recently. If you are that worried about it look for another job!

lechatnoir · 30/07/2025 20:54

Assume you’re a farmer @twistyizzy- was literally just coming on to say all the farmers will be up and about then and certainly won’t be stopping for fear of attack or ambush.

I would like to see them try 🤣🤣

There's danger everywhere if you look hard enough. Just do whatever makes you feel good. I used to walk everywhere in London on my own at any time of day or night. The only reason I don't now is because I WFH

lljkk · 30/07/2025 21:39

I've been out at 2-5am for walks. In all sorts of neighbourhoods & cities. It's safest of all in winter, when the creepy homeless don't want to be hanging around in the freezing cold (either) just hoping for a random victim crazy enough to be about... also if you walk fast you look energetic and not an ideal victim.

The homeless have more to fear from those out & about then they are a danger to those out and about, anyway.

FeelinTwentySixPointTwo · 30/07/2025 21:44

I run at that time a couple of times a week, all year round. It's fine. No issues at all, though in winter I obviously need a headtorch. At the moment it's light.
