How did they organise the Victory Parade?

Watched it on TV this lunchtime - fantastic event - burst into tears when they sang Sweet Caroline on the approach to the stage.

But - how does such a massive event get organised at such short notice? Do they have it all planned ages in advance 'just in case'?

Who takes lead planning, management and co-ordination? Who pays for it?

They must have so many services lined up - getting the lettering and signage on the bus, sorting out the staging, electrics , servicing, policing, the various bands rehearsing the right music, rehearsing all the co-ordination of bus / bands / moving the barriers to allow crowds through. Pyrotechnics...so many services involved.

Are all the performers on standby? to be stood down if they lost or didn't get to the final?

Or would they have done it all anyway?

We went this morning, it was amazing to be there but we also wondered the same! It was so well organised, amazing that this was arranged quickly. Only slight criticism is that the sound wasn’t always great so couldn’t hear some of them talking.

Also amazed by the guys selling flags and scarfs saying double winners and the dates, how did they get them made so quickly!

Just got home and going to watch the tv coverage.

They worked it all out for the world cup using event organiser ADD2669 Lionesses FIFA Women’s World Cup Parade - Feasibility | London City Hall share.google/ipGmKwKvnYlZhNXWH

Yes, it's planned ahead of time in case it's required.
DH is involved with something related to it, and he was just told that his service was required for an event in London on x date, and the event had a code name - so he didn't know what it was until about the day before...

Of course, it also means he's been asked this many times before, then often been stood down at the last minute if the team hasn't won (or similar)...

in the case of the Lionesses' FIFA Women's World Cup parade, the Greater London Authority (GLA) contracted Heart Productions to handle the initial planning and feasibility work. Says Google

Who paid for it all?

I dont know what the answer is, but if its the tax payer would people be unhappy with that?

Yes, the sound for Burna Boy was terrible - or at least the BBC's recording of the sound for him was terrible.

But it's an 'event' , like a family party, rather than a concert, and they won't have had much sound check rehearsal.

Maybe they do it all at night with Charles leaning out of a window shouting 'keep the noise down!'

Ha, we were saying camilla’s having a lay-in, so they can’t be too loud!

I hope not!

The funders for the planned but abandoned World Cup celebrations (linked above) were the Greater London Authority (GLA), English Football Association (FA), Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), and National Lottery,

The GLA presumably has a remit to promote London, and people coming out celebrating comes with their spending money, London gets good coverage as a place to come, etc. Plus so many Londoners would enjoy the event - and it's free.

FA - well it's partly their celebration and their job to celebrate football

DCMS - promoting football, encouraging people to take part, providing a big public cultural event , with free attendance

National Lottery - the same.

Also, I presume the BBC paid for the TV rights? So subsidised the event. As a licence payer I'm happy with that! It was a joyful hour's telly for those of us who couldn't be there.

They always have contingency plans for events like this - much like they are constantly rehearsing (in the middle of the night) for funerals for the Royals as you never know when one may shuffle off.

There will be a standard "national sporting event parade" file on someone's shelf that gets updated every 6 months or so and then pulled out when it's needed. These ones are relatively easy to plan for as the dates are fixed in the diary - weddings usually give them a reasonable amount of notice but its the funerals that really cause the headaches!

I think DCMS is the taxpayer isnt it? Which i am happy for them to be doing as it should be a think we celebrate.
