Im having implants put in my upper jaw today . He also said something about tapping part of my bone slightly into the sinises area.

Im scared

What I also hate is when your really numb cant feel your face praying your not dribbling. And you just feel self conscious. Sort of vunerble and crap in general then people want a conversation/talk to you.

I think im going to live of muller rice and porridge for about 2 weeks . I can't think of anything else. I cant stand any type of soup.

Take a packet of tissues to catch/hide any dribbling and it'll be fine.

The outcome's going to be better than not having any teeth or wearing dentures, after all; a couple of weeks of post op discomfort and a half day of numbness is nothing compared to that.

Its just the thought of it all at the time and the horrible feeling after.it just really bugs me when people wabt to start talking especially dentist staff/reception surely they should have an idea your not really up for conversation. Maybe its just me.

But yes definitely worth it and long term it will be great

Oh god, that's a lot of dental work! Do you have an NHS dentist? It will be very expensive privately. Hope your ok.

Me too OP. I had to have an extraction a couple of weeks ago and it's the first tooth I've had removed since I was a teen (I'm 61), and I had some out due to overcrowding. My anxiety was ramped up because I have a deviated septum and can barely breathe through my nose. Once the dentist started putting in the anaesthetic to numb my mouth I had a full on panic attack and he had to stop for a few minutes for me to calm down.

Youre braver than me. I'm not sure I could have something like implants unless they knocked me out. I hope it all goes well.

Oh wow that's awful can understand why yoi pankied i would to. I really feel for you hope your OK now .

I had/have a massive fear of dentist but I bottle it up. And I think because I didn't show it dentist thought I wss talking crap. But I would be so messed up inside/mentally I wouldn't go back . The pain i put myself through over the years has been awful.

Its only when I found the dentist in im mow that things changed. Hes fantastic. His done is nice. He talks to me like a person . He doesn't judge. Its made a massive difference. I still shit myself but I can do it and still go back

That's a relief - and worth every penny when you can smile without worrying about what you look like.

I posted just before I went for an appointment myself - hygiene and composite repair of a chipped molar. I think it's a combination of feeling vulnerable, having to keep your mouth open/breathe through your nose and knowing that they're going to be doing something that might hurt. Mine was fine as well - I've had less than sympathetic dentists before, including one who would have made a very good vet and one who didn't seem to think that anaesthetic was necessary for NHS patients, but the practice I use now is very nice, whether I'm using the NHS side or private.

ETA: I'm having a big bowl of macaroni cheese for dinner. If you like that, it could be an alternative to porridge or rice pudding?

Edited

Never thought of mac and cheese . Today I will probably have yogurts etc. See how feel once the numbness has gone.

Yes definitely feel all them things yes massive difference between nhs and private. There were several things that nhs told me that was not true. It sounds silly but its made a massive difference for me just the change of tone and wording. Taking time to properly explain things .
