My dd (15) has wanted to dye her hair purple for a long time and I finally let her do it this afternoon. She followed the instructions quite well but hasn't coloured it consistently across the length and it looks a bit patchy. She's v disappointed 😥 Is it possible to do another dye over the top to fill in the gaps? Or will the purple just get even purpler?! The dye is garnier nutrisse ultra colour permanent (!) in ultra violet.

Several questions: what colour did she dye over? Brown, blonde?
Did she use any bleach?
How bright does she want it?
Once you respond I’ll try to help.

She has mid brown hair, no bleach used and the dye is 4.26 ultra violet. She wanted it to be darkish rather than super bright.

The purple bits are exactly like the mid-brown results on the back of the packet. That bit went perfectly to plan...

I would use a pre-lightener first and then dye it again

I would use another in the same colour and put on the patchy bits. Leave it for a little longer than the instructions. Good luck😀

First time I dyed my hair the same happneed. I went black from dark brown. I did another box dye over the top and it was fine. I've dyed my hair regularly since then with no issues. You get used to putting the dye on consistently when you've done it a few times.

Good luck. Bet she looks gorgeous. My hair is purple too 🙂

Having been through a lot of different dyes for my dd, I would say that Good Dye Young has been the most successful brand.

Yes, she can absolutely put another dye over the top. Dd has brown hair and gets a reasonable, non-patchy colour without lightening with the right dye.

I would definitely put a box dye over the top, the same colour and definitely invest in a good moisturising conditioner afterwards.

Maybe buy a bottle of peuple shampoo…put the whole bottle on dry hair….leave 30 mins then wash off…worth a try!

You just needed more dye. Hair any longer than chin length needs more than one box. Get two more boxes in the same colour and section it when you apply to ensure every last strand is saturated. It will even out. I’ve dyed and lightened my hair by myself for years. You always need more dye than you think.

Agreed with others not enough dye- not massaged into the hair well enough.
dying over again will be fine

Thank you everyone for all your advice. We're going to do another box over the top. She does have quite long hair, so we should have probably bought more to start with. Fingers crossed it all evens up.

Get 2 boxes and redo it. You need to redo all the hair, not just the patchy spots.

I have shoulder length hair and always use 2 boxes ( same purple as your dd ) Save a bit of the 2 unused elements, unmixed, for covering roots when they appear
