In the process of sorting mine, getting rid of anything gunky and just wondering if there's anything useful I'm missing. Also I'm nosy😆

Mine has:
Paracetamol/Ibuprofen
Plasters/dressings/bandage/tape
Imodium
Cough syrup/throat pastilles
Decongestant tablets
Witch Hazel
Arnica
Savlon
Antihistamine tablets
Athletes foot cream
Vicks/Olbas oil
Tums
Travel sickness pills

To add to these:

  • Anti septic wipes
  • Aloe Vera gel
  • Soothing eye drops
  • Cough sweets
  • Echinacea tablets (Echinoforce)
  • Movicol sachets
Fuzziduck · 27/07/2025 07:23

A lot of the above. Another good staple is magnesium sulphate paste for removing splinters and thorns. I’ve just used it to remove a tiny shard of glass from my foot.

dayslikethese1 · 27/07/2025 07:23

Thanks Saponaria Realised I have wipes and aloe but they were in a different place and I have something similar to Movicol. Don't have the rest though; do you use Echinacea as preventive kind of thing, to stay well?

Oil of cloves for interim toothache relief while you wait to see the dentist.

Mepyramine maleate cream for insect bites and stings.

Colloidal silver spray as an antiseptic/antifungal.

A roll of elastic bandage for strapping up twisted ankles.

Peppermint oil, or a small jar of strong peppermint sweets, for indigestion.

Zovirax or similar in the fridge for instant treatment of cold sore symptoms.

A bottle of home-produced normal saline (changed every few weeks) for washing eyes or cleaning minor injuries.

An eye bath.

AnSolas · 27/07/2025 07:32

saline pouchs
(for eye wash or damp bandage)

Burn dressing / low lint bandages

Foil blanket

onyourway · 27/07/2025 07:37

Sudocrem

DeanElderberry · 27/07/2025 07:38

I have been known to take milk thistle drops after drinking a little more than was sensible to 'help buffer my liver'. No idea whether it really works, but when you're slightly fluthered the name 'Silybum' is hilarious.

All the usual warnings about the dangers of drink.

onyourway · 27/07/2025 07:37

Sudocrem

Of course. And a little bottle of flat Seven-up. The proper stuff with sugar.

cardpin · 27/07/2025 08:22

I usually take stock of what I have when the kids go back to school and all come back with various bugs.

Only things I have to add are:
Cystitis sachets (I get cystitis whenever I'm too stressed)
Stick on heat patches (I wear them to work when I have period pain)
Cool forehead strips
Night nurse
Box and pocket Kleenex balsam tissues
A big tub of Vaseline

I also have a couple of bottles of olbas oil bubble bath that I got on sale in the winter that come in handy.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/07/2025 08:44

We could open a Boots with what we have-

Burn dressing

Epi pens
Antihistamine
Hydrocortisone cream
Antihsan cream
Bite/ sting pen

Paracetamol
Anadin
Ibruprofen

I'm sure there's more!

GentleSheep · 27/07/2025 08:45

Micropore tape
Saline pods
Large non-adhesive padding (I once got caught out with a large burn that none of my plasters would cover, so I now make sure I have those 10 cm ones with no adhesive edges, and use micropore tape to secure)
Lugol's Iodine
Disposable gloves
Vicks Vapour Rub
TCP liquid
Burn spray
Wrist splint
Safety pins
ORS electrolyte tablets

DilemmaDelilah · 27/07/2025 09:32

Everything! Nearly, anyway.

Elastic bandages
Sling
Gauze bandages
Gauze dressings
Elastoplast
Sensitive plasters
Corn plasters
Mepore dressings
Micropore
TCP
Savlon
Sudocrem
Haemorrhoid ointment
Glycerine suppositories
Movicol
Loperamide (immodium)
Peppermint capsules
Paracetamol
Ibuprofen
Solpadeine
Codeine
Cetirizine
Loratidine
Calpol
Gaviscon
Antiseptic wipes
Sterile wipes

Cinnarizine (for travel sickness)
Kids Kwells
Eye drops
Tweezers
Witch hazel
Cotton buds
Cotton wool

Then of course there are our personal medications as well.

The only thing I think we need that we don't have are steri strips, and I've just ordered some. My sister cut her hand badly when using a mandolin recently and needed steri strips, which reminded me.

dayslikethese1 · 27/07/2025 11:48

Wow delemma that's impressive. Steri strips are a good shout since obviously you'd need them right there immediately in the event of. I don't have any either I don't think but going to have a proper sort through all the wound and dressing stuff later. I have a load of Boots points so it's a good time for a restock. I had to Google some of the things you all have listed as didn't know what they were so this is educational it turns out😆

I used to use that stuff dean but never repurchased as I came to the conclusion it didn't do anything.
