In a bit of a dilemma

I had a rather large hedge out the front of my house, it was a struggle to maintain especially cutting the top, but I would have found a way, anyway my neighbour noticed I was struggling to cut it and said he would rather it be cut right back, because it was blocking his view on his car on his ring doorbell, we have had quite a few car break ins round the area, so he offered to do it, I agreed and never thought about getting rid of the branches, I don’t pay for a brown bin, and there’s is full, I guess I was under the impression he was going to get rid of it as he wanted it cut, should I get rid of it? Or should he? Bearing in mind it was his idea totally to cut it right back, it is currently sitting on the road by the path not in the road, in two big sacks can’t really stay there, I’m under the impression he thinks I will get rid of it, to add I don’t have any transport to take to the tip, they know this, they have two big cars one each, so could easily dispose of it.

Me too, he could have just left it all for OP.
Some people would

Oh sorry OP. I see that you bagged it yourself.

BlueandPinkSwan · 26/07/2025 11:09

Hope you can get this resolved soon OP one way or the other, but for goodness sake move it back onto your property, otherwise there really will be problems.
Then you can clear it in your own time, in the way that suits you.

Petitchat · 26/07/2025 11:14

Yes, because you can bet your bottom dollar someone will report it!

ClaredeBear · 26/07/2025 11:22

Just ask him. Just tell him, “the only thing is I’m unable to dispose of it - that’s why I’ve been hesitant to do it.” Etc. see what he says.

All sorted someone is collecting Friday, I just have to find a way of moving it into my back garden now

I would put a note on it saying ‘awaiting. Collection ’. Hopefully it will stop rou being reported.

Thank you at last someone who agrees with me, no he hasn’t mentioned getting rid of them he was giving me ideas how to get rid of them, even telling me to burn them in my garden

Oh I see. The point of this thread was to ignore multiple posters’ advice, despite the correct legal position of what they’ve been telling you, and wait for somebody to come along who agrees with you.

in that case, I agree with you too. That makes three of us.

i imagine the mess has magically disappeared now. What shall we discuss next. The weather?

I didn’t ignore I followed advice, I moved the rubbish off the roadside, no it didn’t magically disappear unfortunately, and arranged for collection, the earliest they can do is Friday
what is your problem?

Put it in your general waste, a bit at a time. Ask your neighbour if they would be good enough to do the same so it's not going to take many weeks.

It’s sorted it’s getting picked up on Friday.

It’s your responsibility. You owned the hedge, the neighbour kindly agreed to help you. You should have clarified exactly what he was going to do to the hedge and checked who would be disposing of the green waste. It’s your rubbish, you have to deal with it.

I didn’t ask him to do anything though, he wanted it cutting back , so I agreed to let him.

ive come in too late to suggest you split the cost of the brown bin between you for the year.
Glad it’s sorted out

bluegreygreen · 26/07/2025 16:17

Glad that it is sorted. I do hope that between you, @chocolatemuffin75, you checked for nesting birds, as ideally hedges are not supposed to be cut until the end of August.
