Sale on Facebook market place

Offered a hosepipe for sale on Facebook. Item is used but not by me/ at my house (I got it on a pallet delivery of lots of items). Item is photographed from many angles. Advertised as "wall mounted 20m hosepipe" no other info apart from price and multiple images. Image shows make and model as well as condition of box and item.

Item sold to someone on Facebook market place - price agreed is 25% off advertised. Person comes to collect it, tries to haggle on price due to used condition. Told X is price, take it or leave. Continues to try and haggle, eventually pays agreed price.

Contacts me today to say it doesn't work and they'll be returning it. Told I don't take returns. Has now turned up at my house, again told I don't take returns and asked to leave. Continues to argue with me so I close the door. Is now threatening to call the police.

What would you do? Item was £15.

Anyone?

Did you specify it was 'sold as seen, no returns'? Would the police get involved in this low level of a matter? You might want to reimburse for an easy life - regardless of the principle - it's up to you.

Hosepipedramas · 25/07/2025 19:25

Yes, advert said no returns. I'm thinking the police have bigger things to deal with? Or that it's not even a police matter?

I've blocked her now as she just kept on messaging me. I'm fully expecting her to turn up at my door again.

I've been selling on vinted for ages and got 100% positive feedback. I only put the big things on marketplace that I can't post and I've never had an issue before

Did you show her it working? Did you test it? If not I would refund her and just sell on eBay or VINTED not have people round our house.c

Hosepipedramas · 25/07/2025 19:34

Nope, didn't show it her working or test it.

I'm not refunding her now, she'd have to come back to my house!

How can a hosepipe "not work"?

22O725 · 25/07/2025 19:55

To be fair I think if you are buying pallets of stuff to sell on you should absolutely be checking the condition of the items.

My thinking 🤣
Unless it has holes in it

I didn't buy a pallet of stuff to sell. I bought a pallet of garden furniture which I've kept and it had on it a few other things, 2 hosepipes (1 I kept) and some metal things that I've no idea what they are so will go to the tip with me next time I go. I'm not like a business operation where I'm buying and selling stuff. Stuff I sell on vinted is like the kids clothes and stuff like that.

Not sure. Doesn't wind up or something. I didn't really understand the issue. It's no electric or anything.

A wall mounted hosepipe that does not rewind into its casing is useless (I know, I have one annoying big lump of a thing outside my back door). There should be a working spring loaded mechanism to rewind the hosepipe and if it doesn't work the item is useless. Therefore I think you should have refunded the buyer if you had not checked that the mechanism works. It is bordering on dishonest not to.

For £15 I would just take the item back and refund her.
