Wire snapped on railtracks, teeth not supported, orthodontist shut until end August

As per heading, new railtracks were put on DC eight weeks ago and were perfect and had really good effect in first eight weeks. There was an appointment to tighten yesterday and it was with a different person within the practice and was a disaster, a tooth is catching on the wire on one side and the wire has snapped on the other side meaning teeth which had improved so much are now going to move, and it is uncomfortable. I am really upset about it. The practice is closed until the end of August. Is there anything we could do in the meantime?

Is there a message with the "we're shut for a month" to say what to do in case of urgent issues?
What about your dentist? Whilst they won't be able to fix it, they might have the contacts to know who could deal with it currently.

Short term - dental wax!

assuming you have separate orthodontist to dentist, call your dental practice asap. they should be able to advise where you can go for emergency care.

Thank you for the replies. I do know where to go for emergency care, but I am told that all they will do is cut the wire off which may make the situation worse. We have sorted out the sticking out wire, and so now the discomfort is to do with irritation, a tooth on the top knocks against the wire on the below teeth, which didn't happen before, and worry about moving teeth, but I think that if the wire comes off completely there won't be any holding value at all?

Would another orthodontist be able to do anything other than cut the wire off?

I think I have worked out what happened, it seems that the person who did the brace this time was not experienced as they were very busy. If I went to another orthodontist during the holiday would they be prepared to put in a new wire and spring or does that go against ethics? Wondering if it is worth a try.

DD had teeth that were touching the wire.
The orthodontist put something on her back teeth when fitting the braces to alter the bite slightly. It felt weird for a while but she’s fine now.
Don’t know if that’s something that your dentist could do in the meantime.
Seems mad that your orthodontist isn’t open until the end of August!
Good luck with getting it sorted.

Thanks. The wire is so misplaced/loose that dc can't wear the elastics now, because the bottom molar isn't supported and is moving to its side inwards! So all the good work is going to be lost.

Does anyone happen to know - would an orthodontist help by sorting out the wire in this case? It would not take long. Or would they not be able to get involved without a release of some sort?
