No, we had plenty of tests they did for KS3 because the school is back to normal after GCSEs and A-Levels are done.

They also scheduled trips, workshops and other events right up to the last week.

No, all I see in the news is parents complaining about the amount of school holidays being difficult to cover, then the same parents use up some of their own holiday allowance when they don't have to just because they fancy a cheaper trip.

It's the last few weeks of summer term in high school. The answer would be no as there's end of year tests, information about the start of year 8. The work runs right untill the last day, it's not like primary

The curriculum is now so huge that most primaries still work pretty full on in the last week. There might be a movie on the last afternoon if they're lucky.

Interesting. DD left primary in 2021 and throughout her time there the last 2-3 weeks of the summer term were fun and games.

To be fair its different for those in Year 6 as once SATS are done they don't actually have much more they need to do.

DD didn’t do SATS because of Covid but from reception to year 6 (blip in Year 5 due to Covid) there was no teaching done in the last couple of weeks. It wouldn’t have made a jot of difference to her education. But at her school at any rate, I don’t recall many if any kids going off early.

Absolutely. If there are no exams and it’s not an exam year, I have no issue with it.

CeeJay81 · 25/07/2025 09:18

We nearly always do term time holidays because otherwise we couldn't afford to go. Not been fined here(Wales). Didn't this year as eldest was sitting gcses but in year 7 yes.

twistyizzy · 25/07/2025 09:19

There will be end of year tests/exams and secondary isn't like primary where they do no formal lessons the last couple of weeks.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/07/2025 14:37

No. I'd pay for a holiday that I could afford during the school holidays. Sorry if that's not what would want to hear, but i think school is more important than holidays.

drspouse · 25/07/2025 14:41

We are considering it. We enjoy skiing as a family and there is an organisation that runs disability friendly ski trips but in school holidays the resort is ridiculously busy so it kind of misses the point for our DS who can't cope with crowds. He's in specialist school so it's not an issue for him but DD will be in Y7.

I would and did for a whole year to travel around the world.
