Do you feel a bit anxious/depressed the first few days of the school holidays? Before getting used to it and enjoying the break.

I'm back here to talk to people who understand.
I feel utterly sick at the thought of going back to work. I do actually enjoy my job, but I don't feel I've got enough done these holidays.
I've been gradually feeling more and more panicked since we hit the half way mark. If I'd have said anything then to someone who isn't a teacher, they'd think I was mad when I've still got 3 weeks left. Now when it's a few days left, the adrenaline is flowing again and I as I said, I feel sick.
Anyone feeling the same?

Happyhettie · 26/08/2025 20:32

Yup. I’ve not switched off all summer due to issues we know are going to hit us in September and I feel shattered before term even starts.

There are WhatsApp messages about what we need to do before the inset day and it’s still the bloody holidays. It’s not fair, even having the thing muted, you can still see there are messages but if I’m not on it, I won’t be kept in the loop as it’s used as communication. It was meant to be for social things but it isn’t. 4 emails from the business manager telling us things we can get done over the holidays too. It’s awful.
So yes, I’m with you on feeling crap already. Don’t really know what I can do about it either. I do enjoy the job, just gettIng myself wound up now.

Yes, takes a week to decompress and I miss the children!

That's terrible @Happyhettie Get the Unions on that!

Happyhettie · 26/08/2025 22:38

It’s bad isn’t it. We don’t have a union rep and I’m not willing to raise my head above the parapet (again!!) whilst everyone else steps back.

I’m ignoring it at the moment. My fight to make things better has gone now. Can’t change anything and I need my job!

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/08/2025 23:02

Yes. Takes me a week at least to 'come down' from the business and stress. The the last week is riddled with back to
school anxiety and failure dreams!
And I love my job!

MathsTeacherandLoveit · 26/08/2025 23:12

Can you archive the WhatsApp group so you can't even see it?

everychildmatters · 27/08/2025 00:03

First September in 21 years I am not teaching in a school. No feelings of doom or anxiety and have literally had zero teaching work to do in 6 weeks. Not even really thought about it. But huge drawback is also zero pay over the break!
I'm now an EOTAS Tutor and work-life balance wise living my best life ❤️
