How do old people (i.e. me and DH) turn their mattresses?!?!?!

We bought a new mattress that needs turning every week. FUCK ME. It's SO heavy and nearly breaks our backs every time. But if we don't turn it, it DOES get lumpy and uncomfortable.

Wish I'd stuck to my Ikea shitty mattress.

How do other people/old people manage this?!!!

I don't think I have ever turned a mattress in my life nor needed to. Sounds like you've been duped.

No most mattresses need to be rotated and turned. We have a couple of vispring ones and after the initial period of frequent turning, they only need to be turned every 3 months. We do the turning on the nearest bed change day next to a quarter day. We also move the bed then and vacuum under the bed. It takes two of us to turn the mattresses but they are thick with springs. I still expect to be able to do this into my 80s. I suppose you will have to get someone else to do it then.

Yes! But note it says rotated. Not turned. Rotated means spinning it not flipping it.

only needs turning /flipping monthly or so

Ours is only to be spun because of all the springy things. So just spin it.

People saying 'most modern mattresses don't need to be turned' I ASSUME are referring to memory foam mattresses? I specifically wanted a sprung wool mattress which felt like the greener option and better for menopausal night sweats. Does anyone have one of these and been advised that it doesn't need turning?

I think they are referring to memory foam.

There is also a confusion of terms. Memory foam does not need turning (flipping over) but it needs rotating weekly, then monthly.

I have memory foam so what I'm doing is rotating the mattress. I have a footboard, so it's heavy work heaving it over that to get it rotated. No footboard would make it easier.

I bought a Simba and it says don't turn. Not that I would anyway.

I recently purchased a new mattress and the information with it said it doesn't need to be turned. I wouldn't buy one which requires regular turning.

Blingismything · 23/07/2025 15:53

I don’t do it as have back problems.

Skybluepinky · 23/07/2025 15:57

Just buy a no turn one.

Just buy a no turn one.

Even no turn ones require rotating.

Even no turn ones require rotating.

Mine requires occasional airing, turning or rotating is not required.
