Does anyone have a PA for personal/home admin ?

floooooofy · 22/07/2025 12:01

I work FT and am seriously considering hiring someone. I cannot keep up with the amount of personal/home admin I constantly have. Add in Christmas planning too - which is fast approaching - and I cannot cope.

Would be interested to know if anyone uses a PA for their personal/home admin.

No.

canyon2000 · 22/07/2025 12:09

No, but there isn't that much to do surely?

Anythingyousay · 22/07/2025 12:10

I wish!

No. I struggle to see how anyone could have that much home admin, they need it. All of my bills are paid automatically. My shopping is basically automated with Ocado. My dog has a vet plan, so they send me her medication out three-monthly, and remind me when I need to make appointments (which I can do on the app in one-click). There's not much else I need to worry about.

Simonjt · 22/07/2025 12:13

No, it would be completely pointless, it takes barely any time, it would take much longer to produce a timetable etc for the PA.

Rowen32 · 22/07/2025 12:20

Ah come on, it can't be that much. Christmas is basically a few presents and extra groceries

FrenchandSaunders · 22/07/2025 12:22

It's about 15 min a day, if that!

mumda · 22/07/2025 12:23

What do you need help with?

SnowFrogJelly · 22/07/2025 12:24

Seriously?!

NewWin · 22/07/2025 12:25

No, what would they do??

Having said that - deal with a PCN I'm fighting, plan and book my upcoming holiday, remortgage paperwork, passport needs renewal, get quotes for and chase up some house jobs... Maybe there is a job here for someone!!

Mushroomswitheverything · 22/07/2025 12:27

This is what I do! My clients aren't exclusively personal assistance in the home, but I have a few.

It's certainly an indulgence in terms of expense, but if people want to pay a couple of hours a week to stay organised, I won't turn down the money!

SupposesRoses · 22/07/2025 12:27

I imagine it would be difficult to find someone to do it exactly as you would, and that the explaining what you want would take longer than just doing the task yourself. Moneywise I wonder if 5 days of unpaid leave would get you more done than paying someone all year round.
Or outsource another job and use the time for admin.

Gardeninrags · 22/07/2025 12:27

Bloody hell OP, how much would that cost and wouldn’t you spend more time telling the PA what you wanted done than doing it yourself? You must be a very high earner to be even contemplating that

PermanentTemporary · 22/07/2025 12:28

No and I don’t think I need it (1 adult child, semi detached) but it sounds lovely, especially if you have a big family/house/animals. Maybe a day a week, or two days? School hours? Could be a wonderful job for someone. Problem is you’ll want them on site, don’t compromise on that.

mamagogo1 · 22/07/2025 12:28

Really, unless a drip about sen or something, how much is there to do? Set up direct debits and check insurance costs annually. Christmas planning? = huge amazon order, one trip to the mall and big Asda (for non food) and dunelm, trip to local town winter fair, get the food in 3 days before Done!

MondayYogurt · 22/07/2025 12:29

Most of the senior execs have a home PA. They call them wives. 🤔

But seriously, you'll have to weigh up how long explaining what you want takes vs doing it yourself. It's far easier to outsource something else, like cleaning or cooking and free up that time to allow you to do the complex planning.

Rosesanddaffs · 22/07/2025 12:30

Yes my husband does, it’s his wife! X

mamagogo1 · 22/07/2025 12:31

That said, quite willing to do this if local to me or do remotely. I do people’s self assessment tax returns because they aren’t organised enough to do them themselves, easy £100 a time, pays for holidays

ExponentialDelivery · 22/07/2025 12:31

No, but my ND young adult will need to when I can no longer help. But that would be to help him rather than do it for him.

I think it depends on your life stage and situation, there have been times I've felt overwhelmed, working through the EHCP process, disability benefits, schools and various DCs activities on top of the usual budgets, insurances, holiday planning and bills can get too much.

CrispieCake · 22/07/2025 12:32

You need a wife.

floooooofy · 22/07/2025 12:33

My current load (without being outted):

Manage the extensive appointments and paperwork for DC1's lessons, which will hopefully be his career in the longer term. This is in a field I have no knowledge or experience of. Trying to work out what we need to do and when, finding the information for myself.

Manage admin for DC1 SEN education at home, including cajole DC to attend lessons/manage homework/help with lessons where I can and cook on demand during the day as DC has an eating disorder. Liaise with LA, manage EHCP and other SEN appointments.

DC1 needs vaccinations, these wont be via the GP
DC2 needs an eye test
DC2 needs kitting out for an upcoming school field trip
Both DC need a haircut
The car needs fixing, the issue is a bit niche and a regular garage cannot do it
DC2 needs a new passport to travel, albeit later this year
I have possibly found additional support for DC1s career choice/lessons. I need to spend some time exploring this further
DC1 possibly needs physiotherapy, but I am not sure what the issue is/if physiotherapy is appropriate, I need to contact the GP to confirm if they need to see DC1 or if can go straight to a physiotherapist ..or will the GP refer ?
Possibly an upcoming careers fayre for DC1 to attend, but we need to enrol for this and I need to find someone to take DC1 as I have to work. Going to the fayre requires us to pay a membership fee, I need to ascertain if this is worth it. The fayre is miles away, if DC1 goes.
I'm currently liaising with several builders re work at home
The dog needs booking in for vaccinations
I need to order and collect more medication for the dog

..plus the usual home finances/cleaning/washing/planning/my hobbies/work & I am senior and manage a large team.

Just a few things on my plate, I am sure these is more I have forgotten

My DH has one....

BeamMeUpCountMeIn · 22/07/2025 12:34

I'd love this. I work PT as I have a child with SEN and could honestly cry at the amount of emails and information I have to juggle.

I often log off my work laptop and then have to spend ages on my home laptop sorting out personal admin.

ukathleticscoach · 22/07/2025 12:34

No the butler is in charge of that

Get your husband to help. You could get a cleaner that would free up time.
