Any ideas for my hand ?

I get execma on my hand / sometimes it's pompholox execma .
I've had this now for a few months , itches like mad and is sore .
I have used Eumovate Ointment and slather on GV ointment or E45 overnight with white cotton gloves to keep them covered, and during the day Aveeno cream to keep moisturised to no improvement .
I haven't visited the dr as you can never get an appointment and I don't see it as needing doctor involvement as using steroid cream plus emollients so not sure how they would do anything than that.
I appreciate any opinions / suggestions .

Any ideas for my hand ?

I was going to suggest Aveeno, but I see you’ve already use that. I use Aveeno shampoo, conditioner and body wash, as well as their hand cream.

When my GP offered me steroid cream, he asked me whether I wanted a mild or strong one. Is it worth asking for a stronger one?

also, I take antihistamine and that helps as it indirectly improves my eczema as I have hayfever.

i also use a oat soap from goat. Link below from Amazon: The Goat Skincare Pure Goat's... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B06Y2ZG84Q?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

not sure whether any of that helpful or not?

I had an identical if not very similar thing on my wrist, the only thing that got rid of it was a particular steroid cream and an emollient or it was the season changing or both.

I can send you the details if you like and you can ask the doctor if they will prescribe it.

You don't have pet rats do you?!

I was coming to say Betnovate but see you’ve tried it. Coconut oil? You’ve probably tried that. Washing hands with head&shoulders shampoo? Cerave moisturising cream (in the tub not the bottle) helped a patch of mine.

Cadenza12 · 21/07/2025 22:26

You've tried a lot of things so probably best for get an appointment with your GP. Skin problems are best treated early before they get a hold.

WashableVelvet · 21/07/2025 22:26

Is your eumovate in date? It doesn’t last forever.
If it’s lasted so long it might be worth talking to your gp or at least a pharmacist about what else could help eg antihistamines.

LoveSoftAsAnEasyChair · 21/07/2025 22:31

Have you tried castor oil?

HopeSpringsInfernal · 21/07/2025 22:34

Could you be allergic to one of the ingredients in the creams you'rebusing?

I'm allergic to lanolin & I have to be very careful because it's a really common ingredient

Addictedtohotbaths · 21/07/2025 22:38

I get similar when I do I stop using any soap to wash my hands, don’t use dish cloth just a brush to clean things and only use aveno and Steroid cream.

do you have issues with SLS? I have to be very careful not to use shampoo and shower gel with that in it.

also sun cream can make it worse.

Lund · 21/07/2025 22:40

I had pompholyx on my foot, not quite as bad as yours but got rid of it with a weird combo of Betnovate and Canesten anti-fungal cream. Had to use both - neither one on its own did the job. Hope you can get rid of it soon - it is the itchiest thing in the world !

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 22/07/2025 07:27

I honestly think you need to see the GP for a proper diagnosis and so you know what to use. Some creams can make skin issues ten times worse (ask me how I know 😩).

Shenmen · 22/07/2025 07:37

Do you know what is causing it?
For me it's sponge dishcloths (those square flat spongy clothes), most soaps and anything lavender.

I use the nappy cream bepanthen to calm it down.

MayBeee · 22/07/2025 07:55

I'm going to try a few things to see if anything is triggering it . Will wear washing up gloves , and change the steroid cream and emollient incase its not helping.
My shower gel / shampoo is SLS free , and rather than handwash will use soap to wash my hands .
Thanks for the advice .

Do not over use steroid cream. It is short term use for a few days to get on top of a flare up only. It thins the skin.

I had this eczema. What worked for me was Hydromol Intensive (has to be intensive 10% urea) and yoga to keep on top of stress which was the trigger.

I now take an immune suppressant for something else and it has totally disappeared.

TotallyAddictedToCoffee · 23/07/2025 12:05

@MayBeee I have pompholyx on my hands and feet and I find that using anything with methylchloroisothiazolinone in makes mine flair up terribly - so avoid it at all costs

JurgenKloppsTeeth · 23/07/2025 12:12

I also have this on hands and feet but the blisters don’t itch. I am starting to wonder if it’s actually related to athlete’s foot/fungal nail rather than eczema and I should try antifungals instead.

I agree , I once had a dermatology appointment and she warned me of this , it's in most washing up liquid so I wear gloves when washing up .
She also advised me to use 50% of the recommended amounts for washing powders / liquid etc .
