Teacher's thank you card is a holiday brag-a-thon!

DC's class is doing an online card (kudoboard) so the parents kids can post a pic alongside a gushing thank you to the teacher about how wonderful the year has been, and the teacher can then scroll through them all.

It seems the parents are very unsubtly using it as a opportunity to brag about their holidays! Half of the pics show a kid in an amazing location. We've got snowy mountains on a ski trip, some kind of quad bike dune expedition, a beach in a tropical paradise, on an enormous boat in a beautiful blue sea, at famous European landmarks, horseriding in a lush green landscape, and even trekking up what looks like Inca pyramids!!

I'm almost embarrassed to upload the photo we did of DC in their bedroom!

I'd go the other way and take a picture outside the local aldi or B&M. (It's actually a regular outing for mine in the school holidays so not even lying!)

Me too, I was thinking the laundrette

Post the pic of your kids in their bedroom. I bet it’s lovely, and it’ll shame tje others as they’ll know they’re being dicks.

Latenightreader · 21/07/2025 17:27

I was also going to suggest you photoshop him on the moon! Great minds.

When mine were leaving primary school we were instructed to upload one photo of the DC in their school uniform for the leavers year book. The vast majority did, but then a few not so stealth boasters uploaded photos of the DC in lovely holiday locations. One child (well, parent) uploaded FIVE photos, in different locations.

oh this is so funny

do you reckon it started out everyone had a photo in the bedroom/by a front door

then one posts skiing and one thinks “I’m not having that so unseasonal here take dune buggies”
then “dune buggies how uneducational I present the Inca trail”

or

all of them thought independently “now’s my chance in case anyone has missed our private yacht holiday/tropical island snaps on the gram”

hopefully it gets so ridiculous the school decides to stop it next year
“thanks from inside the eye of a hurricane you really brought Johnny’s passion of tropical storms to life this year”

Edited

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 This full on split me in two 💨 👁️ 🌬️

I'm a teacher and love the kids I teach dearly. However, the last thing I would want to spend my holidays doing is looking at photos of them!!

whatcanthematterbe81 · 21/07/2025 17:43

I organised the card this year and lots of holiday pics. Nothing seemed showy to me. Just the nicest pics we take tend to be on holiday so I assumed same for everyone. Our was just in the lakes but a cute pic. Never occurred to me anyone was showing off

whatcanthematterbe81 · 21/07/2025 17:44

Ours were pics on front of the card

Private school? Both the fact that they're already on hols abroad and the timing of it.

State schools only broke up Friday just gone right?

Northern Ireland and Scotland broke up about 3 weeks ago! It’s just English schools that are so late.

Photoshop your kid in front of Sydney harbour bridge.

And shortly after with one of the Great Wall of China and another with the great pyramids of Giza, and comment "It's been a busy weekend's travelling for us!"

whatwouldlilacerullodo · 21/07/2025 18:06

I was going to suggest a space walk but was beaten to it! Love the soup kitchen suggestion as well!

Calliopespa · 21/07/2025 18:10

The teacher probably thought your dc's pic was charming - and probably thought how accurate a reflection of the year of teaching them it was: some were sweet and natural, some were little ....

Christ - does no one think of the poor teacher 🙈🤣🤣

This - so tone deaf - even the private school teachers I know can’t afford to take their kids skiing/to the Inca trail etc! They can’t even afford to send their kids to private school themselves which seems rather perverse!

I'm on a WhatsApp for a club dd attends.

I hate the summer holidays for this exact reason.

It starts off with "Toby won't be there this week, he's in disnyland Paris with his auntie" then "Eva won't be in for 2 weeks, we gave Paris a skip this year and went right for Disneyworld" then "Eric won't be in for 3 weeks, we decided not to do the touristy stuff and are off on a retreat with Buddhist Monks, far more educational" and on and on it goes for the whole summer.

They start posting photos too which is annoying. Post them to your mates, not a WhatsApp chat which is for club news ffs.

TBH on one of our class whatsapps a few years back one parent posted about 20 photos of her DCs snorkelling somewhere exotic. Next Competitive Mum who had just that week posted multiple photos of HER Dcs on safari in Africa sniped 'Please don't use this space for holiday photos'.

The resulting fallout was actually quite hilarious. (Particularly for me who had saved to treat us to Butlins Bognor Regis).

They definitely can afford to send their own children. They get huge discounts, I don’t know a private school teacher that doesn’t send their own children

RawBloomers · 21/07/2025 18:32

My best photos of the kids on their own are usually taken on holiday. Big grins and pen eyes are a rare combination at other times I remember to take a photo. I suspect these parents have the same issue. Admittedly ours would have the backdrop of Welsh rain or a rolling hill scape in the Peak District, but that’s how we choose to prioritize our lives and spending.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 21/07/2025 18:57

Our class homework portal is like this. Lots of posts saying DD just wanted to share a photo of all of her horses, DS wanted to share his trekking up a mountain, DS wanted to share his skiing trip etc etc. I want to point out each time it’s just for homework so fuck off 😄

Was speaking to someone on my team at work the other day and I asked if she was doing anything nice during the school hols. She replied she’s off the whole 6wks and they are away abroad for the whole thing 🙄. Only holiday we’re doing this year is going down south for 4 days.
