Hot flashes? All of a sudden and I’m young I think

Hi all,

not the most thrilling topic of conversation but I have searched the internet for answers and I don’t have any women in my life to ask.
I am 36. Normal in every way I’d say. Over the last couple of weeks all of a sudden I have been having what I think are hot flashes. I’m not sweating but my cheeks go bright red and feel like they are burning hot. I also feel a bit headachey with it but it’s not bad at all. It happening two to three times a day and it lasts for ages, sometimes a few hours.
The only other thing that has changed with my health is that the length between periods has become longer, in the last 3 months. I’m not on any contraception and not pregnant. My dc are tweens and mid primary age.

I have booked an appointment with the GP for a couple of weeks away. I’m not overly worried about it but it is a bit embarrassing when I’m at work and people keep pointing out that I have gone bright red just on my cheeks.

Has anyone had this happen so out of the blue and suddenly? Is this perimenopause? And possible at my age? Do I just live with it for a bit if it is? Will it get better?

thank you in advanced

Definitely check it out with a doctor. I find people to be so obsessed with perimenopause, here and in real life, that’s it’s blamed for everything from the age of 30 onwards. You are VERY young to be experiencing this!

I’m 37 and experiencing similar but hot flashes with sweats and night sweats. I already have rosacea so know it’s not that but hadn’t thought of going to my GP. Let us know how you get on!

I was going to say thyroid but someone has posted. I get really hot sometimes and have done for years with an under active thyroid. It can really send your body out of whack. Would def get it checked. It controls everything in your body. Good luck.

This is so refreshing to read as I have been experiencing the same and thinking is this normal an I imagining it!

I am 35 and exactly the same been waking up all hours pouring of sweat and putting the fan on at 3-4am and will randomly just go really hot and will ask everyone I am with if they are and they are like no!

Has anybody suffered any other perimenopausal Symptoms at 35-36 and if so what are they? X

lasting a few hours sounds odd, poor fit for hot flashes.
ppl I speak to about hot flashes describing their own, typical duration is 2-3 minutes, not > 1 hour.

As well as hot flushes there are also histamine related flushes, which can also be caused by changes in hormones - progesterone helps with breaking down histamine and oestrogen(levels fluctuate wildly in peri, they don't just drop steadily like progesterone) with the mast cells that make histamine. It's why women can have reactions during or after pregnancy or certain times of their cycle.
I've never had a hot flush but now can go BRIGHT red in the face while drinking alcohol, all depends how high my histamine already is at that particular time
