New John Lewis duvet cover is so rough!

How can I soften a new John Lewis 100% cotton duvet cover set? It has been washed once, and the fibres feel so rough. I ironed it to see if that would smooth it out a bit, but it didn’t really work much.
It was washed at 40 degrees with my usual fabric conditioner.
Please help!

This is the set:

I had discounted the wool room because of their cs reviews. did you have an ok experience with them?

I have a woolroom one, my dad bought one after seeing mine
no issues and I still love it

I don’t see how it’s John Lewis’ fault. It’s their basics range and the thread count is low. You do get what you pay for and I’m afraid £45 for a massive duvet cover is not a lot if you want soft and durable. Their premium stuff with higher thread count is much more expensive

Nah, I have several lovely, soft, 100% cotton sheets and duvet covers from places like Ikea, Asda, Dunelm and Sainsbury's for half that price point or less. I also have the odd more expensive thing from Heal's and Dusk (got in sales) and while they are lovely, they're not vastly different in softness, comfort or how long they last.

I used to love JL but they have gone downhill and I think they have quite a few shabby quality things at higher prices. Agree with others though it may wash/tumble dry softer.

I prefer slightly rougher cotton bedding! I've had thick smooth Egyptian cotton bed linen and find it suffocating. Poly cotton is smooth at first but then bobbles after a while.

Will have to order this set, sounds exactly what I would like.

Laughing at @RosesAndHelleboresbrillopad! 🤣
I find many duvets and sheets, irrespective of price or cotton count, hard and vile. One is silky and soft but that was a fluke.

Tumble dry it with a tumble dryer egg (ecoegg dryer eggs, available on Amazon and elsewhere)

Update to anyone interested 😄
Ironing and tumble drying helped a bit, but it still feels like a hessian sack heheh.
@Noshadelamp would you like to buy it from me - a double duvet cover and 2 pillowcases?

Also I bought a new one - the striped one on offer from TK Maxx suggested by @Agapornis - it’s 200 thread count and lovely and smooth 😃
Although it’s now sold out.

https://www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/search?st=Margate%20duvet&sort=&facets=&page=0 still available if you search for Margate, they're just inconsistent with their colour descriptions - white & green, green & white, cream & green...

Still not pistachio though 😅
