Post-op activities to occupy a usually very active person

My friend’s DH has to have an op soon which means he can’t be very active for several months. He runs, cycles, plays several sports and will find his recovery period very frustrating. Friend and I were discussing things that could keep him occupied, but didn’t come up with many ideas she thought he might enjoy. I suggested I ask on MN and she was happy with that.
Obviously he’ll watch a fair amount of TV and films. He reads a lot anyway, enjoys certain puzzles (Sudoku etc) but not interested in computer games or jigsaw puzzles. He’s planning on brushing up his French. Initially he won’t be able to walk far or stand for long so need to be activities he can do while seated .

I won’t be able to comment on whether he will or won’t enjoy things suggested but will pass on list to my friend. Thanks

Without knowing what sort of op/ recovery he is going to have, can he do some form of targeted exercise when he is able?

I had surgery on my foot last year and was non-weight bearing for 2 months. But, once I'd got over the initial op I was able to do some chair based exercise (upper body weights and some stretching) which really helped me mentally.

Lego has very good sets. Technic, buildings etc.

Shame he's not into computer games. Dh played a lot of virtual golf, motor racing and skiing when he had an op!

There is an online version of Scrabble called words with friends. Or sudoku?
