What plans do you have for the summer holidays?

DS’s are 13 and 10, and it gets harder and harder to entertain them as everything they want to do costs money!!

Just interested to hear what other people are up to in the hope I’ll get some new ideas.

Mine are 15 and 13. 15yo will be occupied with schoolwork - they’ve set 4 hours per subject. Which is shit and I don’t agree with it, but she’s cracking on with it.

Our plans are a week in France, and a week visiting family. Another week on a theatre activity thing where they put on a performance at the end, which they’re both looking forward to.

The remainder? I’m trying not to organise much. I believe it’s good for them to make their own fun. I’ll be turfing the younger one out of the house and encouraging him to go and pootle around on the rec with his friends, or in the woods, or walk to the next village for a pastry in the bakery. They can camp in the garden, kick a ball around, have water fights. All that sort of thing. Nothing fancy or over-organised.

There will no doubt be a lot of gaming, but he won’t be allowed to do that till 3 or 4 o’clock at the earliest.

We definitely have a problem with too much gaming and tv! They are the go to activities if I don’t have something planned. I try to be more chill about it over the holidays (and they do have time limits for gaming) it I do get twitchy! Not helped by the fact that none of us are particularly outdoorsy 😬

It's def harder to think of stuff to do with them, as they get older. Esp cheap stuff My dd11 will most likely play out with friends at times. I've booked a couple of sporting activity sessions and am organising a sleepover at her best friends. We live in a very rural area, so not a lot of stuff to do for older kids. Hoping for some good weather and can take her to the beach with at least one of her friends too. Will try and plan the odd day out somewhere but she prefers to have a friend with her, as her 16 year old brother isn't interested in family days out much, more doing stuff with his mates. So it's more hassle to organise.
