Pavement covered with torn up exercise books and school planners after school end

Never seen it this bad before. The pavements near the local school and quite far from it were absolutely covered in paper from torn up books and planners.

I just don't get that mentality. Sure - tear up your planner but why do it all over the pavements?

Did that happen where other people live?

Not seen it here

Happens at the end of school term. If it’s happening regularly I’d be writing to the school or dropping them an email.

Never have I ever heard of that happening before. I hope it doesnt become the next big thing.

They break up next week here and no doubt the pavements will be covered in eggs and flour again.

Still, at least it washes away.

FancyCatSlave · 18/07/2025 22:31

Not a thing here.

ninjahamster · 18/07/2025 22:32

Not seen that in my area, hope it doesn’t catch on!

Needmorelego · 18/07/2025 22:37

Maybe there was a lot of anger towards the school and they wanted to make a point.
(doesn't mean I agree with it happening)

fivetriangulartrees · 18/07/2025 22:42

Nothing like that here, but the pavements were a sight the other week when a class of teenagers had been given condoms in sex education. I saw a boy opening one, being horrified at how slimy it was and dropping it, squealing. Dozens of kids must have done the same thing.

Toodles89 · 18/07/2025 22:43

Oh dear, this sounds like it could be a SM trend.

If it's directly outside school I'd expect the school to clean it up somewhat - even if it it isn't their responsibility it reflects badly on the school. I'm sure our head would be the first out there with a shovel.

elliejjtiny · 18/07/2025 22:45

Not a thing here, they just come out of school with shirts untucked, ties round their heads and a just walked through a hedge backwards look about them. Apart from ds2 who left year 11 looking his usual immaculate self.

MsMiniver · 18/07/2025 22:47

Notify school and next year they will collect the exercise books and planners and keep them instead of sending kids home with them.

Postre · 18/07/2025 22:52

A kid did this tearing up books while still in my lesson today - to his and others' work. Then he had his fireworks confiscated and was suspended for what were going to be his first days back in September as a year 11. They seem to think they are owed some sort of exciting entertainment before they get six week off.

flowertoday · 18/07/2025 23:01

Oh that's not good. Hope that is nor going to become a thing. There us something profoundly depressing about kids littering .
I would go berserk if one of mine did it. Anyone who drops rubbish on pavements should be fined .
