What would you do?

Genuinely, what do you do with gifts that you absolutely cannot use or like?
I know I’m going to appear completely ungrateful but I’m talking products I can’t use due to allergies, things I disagree with, things that are completely mis-sized, etc.
Do you regift?
Do you donate?
Do you dispose of?
I know people who would like or make use of these things but feel guilty doing so. However my alternative is putting them at the back of a cupboard forever after.

Charity shop
it stops someone buying similar new and raises a bit of much needed cash

Regift, donate to charity fundraisers, take to charity shop, give to friends.

I wouldn’t hold on to things I’d never use.

Clothing I put in the clothing bank because charity shops near me are only open for donations at times I can’t make.

Edible things- either take into work or put in food bank collection.

products- have never been given anything of this nature I wouldn’t use. Eg my mum has got me moisturiser before but I used it. I suppose I would try to also donate this to food bank if they took products?

Also I am quite happy with re gifting. If someone gave me a bottle of wine they didn’t want that would be fine. I gave my sister some
Molton brown products I got free once. I wanted to give her a present as she had had a baby so it’s nice to feel nice. I got the baby some bits but the Molton brown was for her. She doesn’t understand why I told her it was free (because airline lost my bag). She liked it and I didn’t want to pretend I had paid for it. Maybe I just shouldn’t have mentioned that though.

If I've been given a gift that isn't my taste or that I don't have space or use for, I either donate it to a charity shop or I put it aside because sometimes you need a little gift for someone.
I smile to think of the gifts I've received in my life that I'm almost 100% sure have been regifted to me, and so round and round it goes.

If it's something that is large and takes up a lot of space then I take it on a little car trip to a charity shop well out of town, just in case, you know?...
If it's something like a bottle of wine, well I drink it , no problem.

I think someone said that food banks take things like that.

NuffSaidSam · 19/07/2025 00:06

All of your options.

Some get regifted. Some go to the charity shop/school fair/food bank. If it's very pricey it might get sold.

Britneyfan · 19/07/2025 00:08

I tend to regift most things like that. I will occasionally donate if clutter is building up!

TwinklyNight · 19/07/2025 03:55

Donate.

Nice things I just don't want get put into my presents stash so that I always have a gift to give to someone if I need one unexpectedly.

Things I would be embarrassed to give to anyone else get given to charity - if they have been given to me by somebody I see a lot then they might go on display (if they are that kind of thing) briefly before they get given away.

Food and drink items I don't want get given to family/neighbours, unless they have them to me in the first place! To be honest, there aren't often any of those things we don't use though. Except crystallized ginger or anything containing crystallized ginger. 😫
