Cheap but special girly 1-1 things to do with DD4

We’re broke atm but she loves the high life - afternoon tea, horses etc. We live on the outskirts of London.

Any suggestions? I’d love one of the special kids afternoon teas in London but they’re £££££!

" Girly" things?
I thought we'd moved on from sexual stereotyping of children?

stillsleeptraining · 18/07/2025 22:03

Smh. She really appreciates “just girls” stuff and girly things, which we don’t do often. Her brother is a very big presence and usually that’s fine - she also likes dinosaurs, rugby etc. But she’s thrilled by 1-1 girly stuff

Do you have an urban farm or petting zoo nearby that might be inexpensive? You could get afternoon tea items from the supermarket and make it together at home with pretty plates and napkins. Perhaps paint her toenails and watch a favourite movie together. Girly time is the best!

Mini spa: face mask from Poundland, cucumber slices on eye. Try and sit still for 10 minutes!

nail painting. Fingers and toes

i went to a plait session at a hairdresser where I learnt to do…. Plaits. You could do something like that from YouTube?

KatyN · 18/07/2025 22:09

Oh and cook scones (easy peasy) to make your own afternoon tea

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 18/07/2025 22:09

At home “pamper” session. Face mask, nail polish, a “girly” film, bath bomb.

I used to do this with my eldest. He loved a pamper session.

You can get good deals for afternoon tea on groupon

You’re the only one here who is associating the word girly with sex

Just Dance (probably on YouTube)
Role play
Make cards for each other
Make your own jewellery
Dressing up
Make a simple 3 course meal & drinks & write posh menus

How sad that this is a serious suggestion. What a terrible message to send to a four year old girl.

simsbustinoutmimi · 18/07/2025 22:17

Just to add, don’t use face products on a child that young as it’s not good for their skin.

Aspanielstolemysanity · 18/07/2025 22:19

How old is she?
I thought DD4 meant it was your 4th daughter but I can see others are assuming it means she is 4?

Cinema but get dressed up to go?

A nice drink and a cake in a cafe?

Optimustime · 18/07/2025 22:21

A jigsaw puzzle together
Dancing in the kitchen to fun music
Crafts on the dining room table
Baking
Making a ramp and seeing which toy goes down it faster, extra points for launching them furthest across the garden
Learning cats cradle

Aspanielstolemysanity · 18/07/2025 22:21

lots of dance /performing arts type schools do summer shows and they aren't too expensive and makes for a nice trip to the theatre

Oh please. The majority of little girls love this stuff. The OP has already said her daughter has a range of interests including Rugby. My daughter adored a pamper session and she's at uni studying computer science. Lighten up!!

pucksack · 18/07/2025 22:23

She's 4 & partial to afternoon tea?!

pucksack · 18/07/2025 22:24

just do one at home.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/07/2025 22:25

Make your own afternoon tea and dress up to eat it. Bake scones and make tiny sandwiches, mini fruit kebabs etc.

Make a tent with a sheet or pillow fort and read her favourite books in it.

Do glitter tattoos - a kit can be really cheap and they’re messy but bright and fun.

Make a scrap book of your favourite memories of time together and/or a list of things you want to do in future, real or fantasy.

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 18/07/2025 22:41

a 4 year old should have zero concept of 'the high life'....

whatwasthatnoise · 18/07/2025 23:13

I agree with making your own afternoon tea. Last year my son made little plain cupcakes. He took them out of the paper, cut them vertically then added jam and buttercream to make mini Victoria sponges. He would like a shop bought sausage roll or quiche, a sandwich, and a brownie or similar for afternoon tea.
Sometimes making the lunch is the activity!

Otherwise, is there somewhere local that can do a takeaway afternoon tea, then you can have a fun day out with a lovely lunch?

Silversal · 18/07/2025 23:26

Woah what's up with the nasty comments ladies, chill. This Mum is just trying to treat/bond with her little girl and wanted some suggestions.
Foot spa (ie bowl full of bubbles and fluffy slippers and moisturiser next to it and nail polish if you want), bake, colouring in, puzzles. We used to have a £5 day when I was little, I lived near a famous market and we would buy something for ourselves, for the other person and something to eat (we would have crepes) then stroll around and end the day on the swings. Sounds so simple but it was so much fun. My friend does experiments with her daughter in the bath, or makes perfume just food dye/essential oils etc. Making jewellery, painting stones, tye dye t-shirt etc.

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/07/2025 23:28

You could get some fabric pens and decorate t shirts for each other.

Well yes of course I'm associating " girly" with things deemed exclusively suitable for a girl .And the assumption girls are not interested in anything else.

Yes that's what the OP says. Do you struggle with basic comprehension?

Why is it sad? What would you suggest instead, based on the OP?
