Struggling to cope with heat in South East.. Anyone else?🥵

I know it’s always a polarising topic on MN!

However, the past 2-3 years I’ve found it almost unbearable for most of July/Aug/early Sept. It’s like I’ve lost all ability to cope with any heat or humidity and it makes me feel so unwell. I get nauseous, dizzy, lightheaded and feel like I’ll never cool down.

It’s got to the point where I feel anxious sometimes just checking the weather. When there are multiple days in a row ahead with 26-30°+ it just makes me feel depressed, as I know I’ll be holed up in the house, hiding from it and wishing the time away.

We moved in-land from the coast a few years back and it’s always at least 5-6°c hotter here than just 10 miles on the coast, no breeze and never seems to cool down at night.

Had AC fitted a couple of years ago in some of the house, so I end up spending most of my time stuck to those rooms!

I’m neck deep in the peri-menopause hell years at the moment - so just hoping this gets better in time!?

Anyone else like this?

Not really!
I have no air con (not even in my car as it's broken), I'm fully menopausal and my house is south facing and gets hot as hell...

So... I keep blinds down, then go walk in the woods where it is always much cooler. I wear light linen clothes. I go to work as usual (no air con in our school!) drink plenty of water and am grateful it's not pouring with rain!

The only thing I find hard is nighttime as I'm not sleeping anyway... I have given up on going upstairs and sleep on the sofa with the back doors wide open! ( I have a dog and no burglar is going to get past her to me)

I think you have to change your mindset. As long as you drink plenty you won't be actually ill, and being miserable won't make it any cooler. Last summer was absolutely dire (I'm in the SE too) so not sure how you found last year unbearable!

I have always been quite a hot person in and after menopause I am always hot, a bit like when your pregnant. I swam in the sea today, DH was in his wetsuit another couple just dipped and were in a third the time I was and said it was enough. It’s like I have a solar panel. I throw water in my face when hiking and if very hot and at home I just get in the shower in one of my cotton shapeless dresses I bought for this and soak myself and walk around in a wet frock.

Yep it's horrible. I preferred last year's wet summer.

Last year was just as bad!

I’d love to just change my mindset, but I find it utterly miserable and nauseating🤢

I probably should considering a move (much) further north!
