What period pain is normal? Trying to understand dd

Dd is in the early days of her periods and this month one of about seven so far, she is saying she’s in terrible pain.

I have always suffered from horrendous pain and just drugged myself up each month but reading here and there I’m now saying maybe somethings wrong with me. I’m quite confused about all the information out there. Is some period pain normal but really bad pain not?!

Yes, I would agree with that statement. She should see a doctor.

We live in a village and the two male doctors will definitely not bother helping (have seen them myself). Is there anything I can say that would encourage them to help?

You know your DD and is she likely to exaggerate or has a low pain tolerance? If you think she has genuine and abnormally high pain then insist on a referral to a gynaecologist. If the GPs are not taking her issues seriously it needs to be escalated to someone who is more expert in this field. Any doctor, male or female, cannot know what your DD is experiencing and what level of pain is ‘normal’.
I spent years taking my DD to the doctor with migraines severe enough that she was in tears and other unexplained pain, at one point three GP visits and two A&E visits in one month when she was 13. They recommended ibuprofen/paracetamol. It was me pushing and pushing that got her further tests, though still inconclusive (I even had a private MRI). Independently she tried chiropractor, physiotherapist, acupuncture. Long story short she was finally (at 17) diagnosed at a different hospital with MS after an A&E visit and the subsequent MRI (next day, not a six month wait) blood tests and lumbar. It certainly explained a lot of what she had been experiencing.
Hopefully for your DD it’s nothing just hormonal changes but better to rule out endo or other cause (my sister had a burst ovarian cyst as a teenager). And if you are experiencing severe pain get yourself checked out too.

Thank you. Sorry you had to deal with all that @mondaytosunday

Has your DD tried paracetamol and ibuprofen together. If she’s still in a lot of pain after that then I think it’s reasonable to insist on further investigations.
