Which deodorant actually works?!

Gingercatclub · 18/07/2025 11:23

Sat here with millionth deodorant/anti perspirant purchase. Sat still all morning and still wet with sweat. Was using Nivea silver and that absolutely worked but it’s been discontinued so I’ve been on a quest ever since but nothing works.

this weeks trials included dove, sure and now Mitcham. Really wouldn’t mind having dry underarms again. Any suggestions for the sweaty amongst us?

Mitchum roll on and I dry it with the hairdryer on low. I know that sounds utterly bonkers, but it works extremely well if it dries fully after you've put it on.

marmite2025 · 18/07/2025 11:26

The sure max protection cream applied at night

Wreckinball · 18/07/2025 11:26

It’s brutal but works- Perspirex, tiny bottle, about £8, Boots etc sell it, put on clean dry skin at night, works for up to 5 days. Stings non hair growing skin if you go beyond your armpit, red and itchy but stops you sweating/smelling.

Secret outlast

ScupperedbytheSea · 18/07/2025 11:29

Nothing stops me sweating, never has done. Maybe helps a bit, and stops me smelling, but still sweaty.

Even the Mitchum cream roll on that my friends swear by.

Maybe accept the sweat? Its there for a reason. Interestingly my friend who doesn't really sweat gets other signs of heat stroke more easily.

It's annoying as hell though, I get it.

Soft and gentle

Noshadelamp · 18/07/2025 11:30

Triple Dry for women, 72 hours.

There is a 100hr version but I haven't tried it.

I use it mainly daily in hot weather but can skip a day if my skin starts feeling irritated.

I am a particularly sweaty person, even in winter, so this has been a godsend. In winter I use it every other day.

There are a few others like it, eg driclor and perspirex which I'll try if I become sensitive to this one.

Botox?

Im quite bad too. Have Sure on today. Might go back to mitchum which is good. Its awful being wet in clothes. Im 50s

namechangeGOT · 18/07/2025 12:33

Sure Max Protection. Or the dove max protection one.

hairyunicorn · 18/07/2025 12:38

nuudcare.co.uk works wonders—highly recommend giving it a try! You could also consider Botox. It reduced my sweating by about 50%, but it can be quite costly and needs to be repeated every 3–6 months.

If you're looking for a more permanent solution, MiraDry is worth exploring. It’s a laser treatment that targets and destroys the sweat glands. This completely stopped my sweating for good.

Another person who has had Miradry Laser treatment. It was life-changing and worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone who has strong smelling sweat that is really difficult to control.

Perspirex is another good recommendation but make sure your skin is dry before applying and only to the area of underarm where hairs grow.

But Miradry was truly the magic bullet for me. Truly life-changing and liberating to not worry about this any more.

When Mitchum stopped working for me, I found Pitrok in Boots, which is working well… touch wood!

MrsCarson · 18/07/2025 12:48

Yep Mitchum roll on like others have said. I like the Mitchum solid one too, but can't seem to find it now.
I have the Mitchum spray for under boobs.

SpottyAardvark · 18/07/2025 12:49

Driclor is the answer to excessive sweating (hyperhydrosis). You can buy it at Boots. It’s expensive (£8 for a tiny bottle) but it really works. Read the instructions very carefully and use exactly as directed. I struggled with awful hyperhydrosis for many years, normal anti-perspirants didn’t touch it, but Driclor fixed it. It’s no exaggeration to say that it was life changing, and I wish I had started using it years before.

Apply it at night, not in the morning, to bone-dry skin (a hairdryer can help with this) then let it dry. Then wash off in the morning & continue as normal. A word of warning; it’s strong stuff and if you don’t apply to completely dry skin it will sting like crazy.

Underarm Botox every 5/6 months. Game changer

Insomniapain · 18/07/2025 13:15

Right from puberty through most of my adult life I used to sweat profusely and it was a real issue for me. But post menopause I dont sweat at all. I dont need deodorant or antiperspirant at all.
There arent too many advantages of getting older but I've found a sense of release having got rid of one problem in my life at least.
Is it just me being peculiar or is non sweating the norm in older women?

Sgtmajormummy · 18/07/2025 13:30

Perspirex (follow instructions to the letter) if you can afford it, Mitchum if you can’t.

That will stop armpit sweat but for body-wide sweating, ditch anything that isn’t 100% cotton, including underwear and sheets. Polyester can harbour BO smells even with washing.
Make your house cooler. Put a cotton sheet over “leather” armchairs. Create strategic airflow from cool to warm areas in the house. Take the opportunity to remove and wash winter curtains (sheers are cheap) and throws, rugs etc. They say we can expect heatwaves every summer now… Jugs of cold water permanently in the fridge and air fryer instead of the oven.

For clothes, I’m moving away from tshirt material to cooler light woven cotton that needs ironing, unfortunately! I’ve bought a few shirt dresses for work with or without sleeves. Sundresses obviously but at 57 the “prairie” look is a bit too youthful. I’m also looking at Bali style trousers (plenty of waft!) with a light silk cami for holiday time. Or shorts, cami and a light open shirt.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 18/07/2025 13:31

TCP - whilst not a deodorant, it seems to mask every other smell for days and days and days.

Keepingongoing · 18/07/2025 13:33

@Insomniapain post menopause here too and sweat much less, and it doesn’t smell at all. A similar aged friend has also mentioned the same thing.

I was never very sweaty, but definitely needed deodorant back in the day. One advantage of the menopause!

Plibble · 18/07/2025 14:17

Triple dry , which I think I bought in Boots. You have to use it at night and then it is much more effective.

I’m the opposite. Never had to worry a day in my life about sweating but now as a menopausal woman I’m sweaty and have to worry about BO. Ugh.

I use Sure men’s deodorant but it’s not great. I will be looking at some of these recommendations.
