Name changed as don’t want to be ID’d online.
I was on the Piccadilly line today, westbound. A dad got on with his two kids, they looked about 8-11 years old. His daughter sat next to me, she looked about 10.
The girl was wearing cotton shorts and a top and the train was very hot, and she was flapping her legs together, shifting around in her seat and wafting her face too, as we all were.
There was a 50-60 year old man, standing almost directly opposite from her. I saw suddenly that his flashlight was on (it was shining in my eyes and I was next to her) he was holding up the phone and it was on us (well, her, really) and I realised he had started videoing but not realised that his flashlight came on when he pressed record.
I stared at him and at the light, pointed in our direction, he realised and fumbled a bit. Switched it off. Looked sheepish. It was my stop next and I had to get off but I gave the dad a look and a quick glance to the man. I felt (or rather hoped) the dad had maybe also caught on.
As I got off and walked up the platform I just didn’t know what to say or do. My intuition was telling he he was recording her opening and closing her legs, but it all happened so quickly there was a part of me that felt like I couldn’t assess the situation quick enough and was concerned for my own safety. What would you have done?
