Thrush, but no idea why I've got it! :(

I used to get it fairly often but
I used to be a regular runner-I'm not now.
I used to be a dancer, it involved lots of strange fabrics tightly in my intimate areas, not now!
Used to take a lot of bubble baths, dont now
Not been on any medication either.

It came on while I were away in the north coast for a couple of days. I've not overheated-it was bloody freezing.

I am worried about where it came from. I haven't had it in several years. I've used a pessary last night, it has soothed it but it hasn't totally gone. How long do they usually take? I cant remember.

Sex? Too much sugar in your diet?

LadyJaneGrey18 · 17/07/2025 08:00

Too much alcohol and sugar. Scented products, different toilet paper? Different washing powder?

I've not had sex since last weekend, hardly drank anything while away and I'm largely on low carb so none of that!
I tend to catastrophise and convince myself it must be something much worse but it sure does just feel like thrush which I've had many times before. It's just so uncomfortable. Hardly slept last night because of it and thought I'd done everything I could to avoid it lately. Not changed any products either.

Do vaginas just sometimes decide they're not happy?!

Thank you for responding. Not the most interesting (or pleasant!) Subject, I realise.

You’re overthinking it. Most women get thrush from time to time. It really isn’t a big deal. Can be caused by anything from stress to laundry stuff to sex to just being one of those things. If you’re still uncomfortable a week or so after the pessary you’ll need to either do another pessary or take some Fluconazole.

I have long term invasive Candida due to autoimmune issues and take Fluconazole permanently. I’m under two specialists for it.

Thank you. I have been tested countless times before my current partner and I'm gay, so not really likely in the great scheme of things that I'd catch anything anyway. Thank you for soothing my paranoia. Im not like this over most things, just anything wrong 'down there' makes me paranoid.

My new partner is lovely and is coming over this weekend. I dont want her thinking I'm diseased. I know she very likely wouldn't think anything of the sort though.

Stress, sugar, sex, masterbation, not properly cleaned sex toys, new detergent, if you've been away it might have been a washing powder on the towels/bedding. Vaginas are sensitive to any ph change.

Which pessary did you use? I find the one with the cream inside and out the best. If its a bad thrush infection you can repeat the treatment.

The caneston one was the only one the chemist had. I should've ordered online, I find that they're more effective (as well as nowhere near as expensive) it did come with cream.
I was in a caravan, we had to supply all of our own towels and bedding etc. I suppose some other environmental change could've been the cause.
