Oh God, ECG results and GO appt -panicking

I had an ECG yesterday. Has to do it twice as the first time the ECG wasn’t clear enough.

I’ve just had a text asking me to book an appt at the surgery. I rang and they have booked me in for 9am tomorrow. That’s unheard of.

I’m really panicking now. It’s going to be bad news, isn’t it?? I have high BP and have been on BP meds for 6 months. Fucking hell.

An ECG is not an exact thing. I had an anomaly on mine, sent to A&E who were poor. Paid for private investigations. Nothing the matter with me. Did no one look at it once it was done? At my surgery you have to wait while the GP reviews it.

BellissimoGecko · 16/07/2025 17:51

Our surgery sends the sound of the ECG down the phone to a team of cardiologists. They listen to it then send a report to the practice the next day.

Anyone? Please?

Don’t panic! I know that’s hard to do, I am someone that spirals too.

Maybe it suggests something that needs further checking. At this stage it’s not going to be anything definitely bad.

mumda · 16/07/2025 18:26

Don't panic about the timing. It's good that they've fitted you in. My surgery seems to have a lot of early morning appointments available.

TheOpalReader · 16/07/2025 18:27

I think if it was terrible they would have told you to go to a&e. I've had an 'urgent' appointment after some blood tests and they pretty much said they look okay so we'll try and figure out what else could be causing the symptoms to try and get it resolved quickly. Which really didn't help the symptoms but they wanted to act while I still had them. Do you have anyone you can go with?

FancyCatSlave · 16/07/2025 18:29

I’m in a similar boat. Routine bloods las t week showed an anomaly, ECG the next day shows “something”, sent for echo last week and got in straightaway on a cancellation -now waiting to hear.

Google tells me it’s either cardiomyopathy which FIL died of or Heart Failure. Fucking brilliant. I’m 47 and had no idea.
Shitting myself for echo results.

BellissimoGecko · 16/07/2025 18:32

I’ve been trying to talk myself down by saying that the nurse would have said to see a GP yesterday after the ECG, but it’s not really working.

it is literally unheard of, ringing our practice at 5.30 and getting an appt. They are usually all taken by about 11am. But I suppose maybe they release extra ones, or they have an extra category of spots after blood tests or ECGs, etc… who knows?

But I can feel my heart banging, and my BP is high. Ffs.

I’m really sorry to hear that. Wishing you all the best.

I had something similar and it turned out to be a minor heart abnormality which required a short laser procedure under sedation to remove an extra pathway in my heart. I’m absolutely fine, so try not to panic - there are lots of less serious heart conditions that it could be.

HollyhockDays · 17/07/2025 09:02

Hope it goes well this morning @BellissimoGecko

HollyhockDays · 17/07/2025 18:11

Any update?

BellissimoGecko · 17/07/2025 18:32

The doc just rang me now. When I went for my appt at 9, he hadn’t been sent the ECG and couldn’t read it. Bloody stressful day. 🙄😢

I have right bundle branch block. If asymptomatic, as mine is, they don’t recommend any treatment/investigations. Apparently I had it on my last ECG 6 months ago too, but it wasn’t mentioned… 🙄

Looks like if you have heart disease, then having right bundle branch block increases your risk of heart attack and death. Great.

If it helps at all, a friend of mine found she had right bundle branch block at uni when we had to make an ECG reader - we were trying to work out what we'd done wrong, then realised it traced properly on me and then had to call the lecturer in, who sent her to the GP then from there to cardiology. It never caused her any problems, and 35 years later still hasn't afaik including when she had twins. It was just a leftover from having a hole in the heart as a baby which needed no treatment and sorted itself out, which her mum did say she'd had when she told her

OurBeautifulBaby · 17/07/2025 18:42

My most recent ECGs have ended up with me seeing cardiologists, having echo’s, holter monitoring and an MRI. It’s worrying but they are acting at lightening speed.

Branch blocks were said to be nothing to worry about when I mentioned that I’d have that on ecgs many years ago.

Covidwoes · 17/07/2025 21:29

I’ve got that OP, and have been told by very experienced cardiologists that it is nothing to worry about!

BellissimoGecko · 18/07/2025 10:45

Thanks all, that’s reassuring. I’ve made an appt to discuss further with my usual GP.
