Woke up to this, this morning. I can leave my drive … just. It’s happening more frequently. Any suggestions to prevent and deter welcome.

When it happened to me ( but not fully across ) I did it to him as he was a repeat offender .
We lived near the railway station and we get cars park in our road instead of paying to park at the station .
Had one man that always parked out side our house often partly over the dropped kerb .
One day had come home and couldn't get on my drive so parked up upfront of him really close .
He came along and saw he was blocked in . Knocked on the door and asked me to move . I told him it was my sister's car and she usually parks on my drive before getting the train to work (I don't have a sister )
So he sat in his car to wait . Kept him waiting in the dark and cold for an hour .
Before ' remembering ' I had a spare key to her car .
Never saw his car again .

This drives me crazy too! Our bastard neighbours do this, even though they have a drive that is easily large enough for two cars 😡
We also live opposite a school and some of the parents are the most selfish, I considerate people I’ve ever had the misfortune to come across. So I feel your pain!

Did you phone?
I am petty so i sit in the window and watch them ticket the cars fastest ever time was under 5 mins. On average every 20.

I filled out the website form

Ring the police if it’s a dropped curb and your are actually on your drive.

This
police will move them if you are trapped on your driveway. Sadly not if you are unable to return your car to your drive.

I used to live beside a school and was regularly blocked in so I couldn’t get to work on time. I made up a bucket of thick but runny mud and copiously poured it on the front of any car parked across my drive. After a couple of weeks just the bucket ready and waiting by the gate was enough to put them off blocking me in.
Pp who is a lawyer said this constitutes criminal damage but nobody ever banged on my door about it. CFs knew they deserved it.

YetAnotherAlias62 · 16/07/2025 09:39

Luckily where I live, we can register our dropped kerbs with the council, who will send someone out to ticket the offending car if we call to say someone is blocking our kerb (even if there's still enough room to get in and out).
They only ever park there once - the fine is a great deterrent!
Plus when other cars see the ticketed car, it puts them off doing it too.

Is the drivers door on your drive side. Could you pull up really close to the drivers door your bonnet is close to the door so they can’t get in. I realise that might mean you’re blocking the pavement so may be a no go.

Argh how frustrating, never ceases to amaze me the selfishness of others and/or entitled behaviour.

You should’ve left your car on the drive and called the police as they are blocking your ability to join the road, which is illegal. It’s not illegal to block an empty drive though. Hopefully you’re able to get back on the drive later, but if you can’t, the police won’t be bothered as no offence is being committed 🙁

Sorry. Just being a pedantic lawyer. Even temporary damage that causes expense or inconvenience to rectify is considered criminal damage. I don’t recommend super sticky notes or lipstick.

I wonder how my dept got away with it? Possibly because it was a private car park and not on the road?

Edited

I managed to get out. Because I reverse into the drive. Think I could enter drive by going in forward

Did think about ringing police. With hindsight I should have but it would have meant being late for work which today of all days I couldn’t be

The fact it’s a private car park is neither here nor there in terms of whether criminal damage has occurred. Crimes aren’t exempt if it happens in private land.
it’s not that they ‘got away with it’. You need someone to decide to complain to the police first of all and then for the police to consider it material enough to press charges. If someone realises they have parked like a dickhead they are unlikely to take it further and even if they did tell police given how much they are stretched I doubt they would bother with it.
Nevertheless it remains it crime based on legislation and case law and the risk is still there.
