Toys/games to take camping

MysteriousFalafel · 15/07/2025 21:43

We camp at least 3-4 times a year and I was hoping for some new suggestions about toys and games we could take please! I always take things like a pack of cards and as many outdoor toys as I can fit (football, scooters, kite etc). Just wondering if there’s anything I’m missing! Kids are 8 and 4 and not the type to settle in and craft or lego. They’re more of the million miles an hour constantly moving variety but I like to have some quieter things for first thing in the morning and if it’s raining.

Snap/Dobble/Uno and Go Fish I find are good games to take when we go away.

DisforDarkChocolate · 15/07/2025 21:51

Dobble, I think there is one for younger children now.

MysteriousFalafel · 15/07/2025 21:52

Unfortunately I cannot abide Dobble Grin it got “lost” late last year as I couldn’t face another game after the 20 bazillion I’d already played

Toy suggestions welcomed as well as games, then I might not have to join in with absolutely everything

You'll kill me for this one, Exploding kittens. Very popular with the cubs. It actually a very good game, just a little wearing after playing it for the 500th time.

I’ll give it a whirl! At least it will add some variety to the never ending Dobble requests Grin

Swing ball, my sister always takers hers. Jenga, which is not only great game but kids can then use the blocks and their imagination to build things.

unlikelychump · 15/07/2025 21:57

Magnatiles?

MysteriousFalafel · 15/07/2025 21:59

Jenga and magnatiles sound good! Swingball might be a bit bulky as the car is always rammed

We always take top trumps, kanoodle and some train track which keeps my two going

DisforDarkChocolate · 15/07/2025 22:06

We really enjoy Abandon all Artichokes (I think). It sounds complicated but it isn't when you play.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza - amazing game.

Autumn1990 · 15/07/2025 22:07

Plastic dinosaurs/unicorns/similar they then forage for the sticks/stones/ leaves to make the play scene.
We have a car jam game that is played with plastic cars on a tray with cards with the car placements for the different levels.

DrLucyVanPelt · 15/07/2025 22:11

Ok Play
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza
Pass the Pigs

thistimelastweek · 15/07/2025 22:12

Top trumps.

Battleships.

DrLucyVanPelt · 15/07/2025 22:15

For an outdoor game if you have some space to use- Kubb is brilliant

ElixirOfLife · 15/07/2025 22:20

Water soakers - perfect weather for it 😎
labyrinth board game

where’s wally book

oh just re-read and saw you said quieter games so maybe not water soakers!

LadyR77 · 15/07/2025 22:24

We love OK Play, Uno Extreme, Monopoly Deal and Grabolo.

OutingHobbyWife · 15/07/2025 22:32

Bananagrams for the older one?
Taco cat is ace!
We've got a bunch of different boxed card games (by MB and Shuffle) like Cluedo, Monopoly and Connect 4 that sound like they shouldn't work as card games but really do. We bought ours from Toys R Us yonks ago but you'd probably pick some up on eBay.

MysteriousFalafel · 15/07/2025 23:17

We’ll definitely be bringing water soakers!! Some great suggestions here thank you

I use this website for inspiration when wanting new games, here's a whole list of options for travel.

Toy wise, it's usually "small world" with my DC- cars or figures or animals. As pp said, adding natural resources they find to create an environment for them is good fun!

I used to take a really tiny paddling pool, or a washing up bowl would work and take Playmobil/small world things or dinosaurs etc for them to do water play with.
