MN double standards

Ive been on MN for years and its getting worse with the bulling.
The double standards on MN are ridiculous.
Just because you are a woman it dont make you right all the time.

There ive said it.

OP posts:

I think that thread this morning was perhaps a fake in the end but it did prove the double standards on here. It was really quite eye opening.

What do you mean?

ExitPursuedByABare · 15/07/2025 18:03

Standards are falling.

Standards are falling.

And the bottom is never in sight

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 15/07/2025 18:08

I know what you mean. Its bloody awful.
I was on one thread last month and mentioned that I hate marmite.

Then bugger me if yesterday a different poster called strawberry something said she loves marmite!

A poster simply cannot say they hate marmite on one post then have another poster say they love it on a different thread.

Thats a complete double standard.

Good on you for calling us out on it. We need to all get together and get our opinions straightened up.

MsFelicityLemon · 15/07/2025 18:12

You've said it — but let’s be honest, it’s not exactly groundbreaking. Yes, there are a few double standards on MN (as in most corners of the internet), but they’re hardly the epidemic some make them out to be.

There's always an equal amount of “imagine if it was the other way round” post — there really is no shortage of posters dramatically leaping to men's defence every time a woman is unpleasant about men in a thread. it’s a miracle men have survived this long and made it in the world, what with all the posts on MN oppressing them.

By all means, call out bullying. But let’s not pretend being a woman automatically gets you a halo on MN — it really doesn’t

Shnuzzbucket · 15/07/2025 18:15

For fucks sake

If you dont like the way people talk to you on mn, then go somewhere else. There are plenty of other places available.

Alternatively, if you don't like the way people talk to you on other sites as well, then maybe you're the problem?

belladeli · 15/07/2025 18:32

I think things have changed somewhat. So many posters seem to lack basic comprehension skills.

TranceNation · 15/07/2025 18:33

CurlewKate · 15/07/2025 17:58

What do you mean?

The one night stand thread from this morning. Think it's been closed now though but went on for 20 odd pages with most replies saying don't tell her husband, it was a mistake everyone makes mistakes, it will only wreck the family, no good can come out of it etc sort of comments.

belladeli · 15/07/2025 18:35

Claiming an actual website with thousands upon thousands of members of having double standards is mind-blowingly stupid.

Are there really thousands of posters posting regularly? I'm not sure. After a few years you recognise the same names & posting styles (even with a name change).

And you think a man would have been told to do something else in the same circumstances? Have you ever seen a thread like that?

Hallywally · 15/07/2025 20:54

Hard to argue with such an eloquent, well evidenced and logical post. How could anyone disagree? 🙄

MN is a plate of sad sprinkled with sad.
If he cheats kick him out if she cheats shut your mouth.
If you spell something wrong in come the wannabe teachers to tell us off.
If your child or you is a twat lets blame SEN.

Your (sic) a poet
And do not no (sic) it.

She's said she's been here for years so I was basing it from that. Even over 10 years there will have been thousands posting. And OP didn't mention regular posters so even one post would count in her double standards claim. I can't find the info regarding actual posters but did find this on here:

Mumsnet is now the UK’s biggest network for parents, with around 9 million unique visitors per month

Well if you've been on here for that long then you will know that once the schools have broken up we often get a thread, poorly written by a teenager who is bored.

No, you get posters who think that it's clever to suggest that but have you a single piece of proof that that has ever actually happened?.

Its such a ridiculous notion

EmpressOfSoreen · 15/07/2025 22:56

Spot on 😂 We're all Mumsnetting wrong! I gather we also woman wrong, feminist wrong, eat wrong, sex wrong, parent wrong, fashion wrong and spell wrong.

'Wrong' looks weird when you type it that many times ... and, yes, it should be 'wrongly'. It wouldn't look any less strange, mind you.

We need to get our acts together! MN is expected to speak as one voice on all subjects. This would give angry men and irritable teenagers something to really have a go at. Women only exist as tokens; it confuses the poor dears if we express individual thoughts & opinions.

#DoBetter, wims, and #BeKind 😏

Oh come on! Unless a poster has a very distinct style it’s pretty much impossible to tell who is who after a name change.

TeenToTwenties · 16/07/2025 07:42

The standard is whoever happens to be on the thread at any time.
There are thousands of MN users. We don't all think the same thing. You see things through your own lense. (I sometimes suggest dyspraxia or executive functioning issues when difficulties sound similar to my DDs. But equally well it could be not being bothered.)

EmpressOfSoreen · 16/07/2025 09:23

I have three thousand identities on this site.

ZoggyStirdust · 16/07/2025 09:29

RufustheFactualReindeer · 15/07/2025 13:33

The forum doesn’t have double standards

posters could have double standards but unless you have seen exactly the same poster on threads that are the same but with the sexs switched then its very hard/impossible to prove

This is often posted as a defence. What actually happens is that the forum has a “culture”

let’s take phone checking as an example. When a man does it all the people how think it’s bad feel comfortable posting, and all those who think it’s ok feel less comfortable so don’t post. The culture drives the balance of posts.

when a woman does it, the reverse happens and those who think it’s ok feel more comfortable so post more. The general culture of whats “acceptable “ to post influences the balance of posts

LarkspurLane · 16/07/2025 11:04

I'd be curious if there are any male dominated areas of the internet, where as much consideration is given to the thoughts/feelings of women as there are to men here on mumsnet.

Exactly! Unless you’re going to research an individual user and their responses across a range of threads for evidence they have double standards, it’s a ridiculous comment. Mumsnet is made up of thousands of people (mostly women) with a range of views and opinions. We represent ourselves, not some collective ‘female opinion’.
