My son has ADHD. He is in his element at places like the science museum, water park Alton towers etc. He takes part in competitive sport and is constantly moving, but this is on hiatus over summer. He's 6. We have done all the above and I need some fun ideas of things to do over summer. We were going to go HP World but I stupidly didn't realise it got booked up months in advance. Does anyone have any fun suggestions? I live east of England but happy to travel!

Thank you.

Bumping (also ideally not London as we are going already!)

If he likes Alton Towers water park there other places like The Wave at Coventry and a big one in Stoke. Also places like ThinkTank Birmingham which is a science museum.

PGL have a sale on family holidays at the moment. I took my DC to Barton Manor one summer and it was brilliant: full board with a packed programme of adventure activities cost just over £1k for the three of us for a week.

Chester zoo is a fantastic day out if you were happy to travel there - loads for him to do and plenty of play areas.

there’s a travelodge at Cheshire oaks about a 10 minute drive away - that’s based at the designer outlet village so while your son is probably not interested in shopping they do have a giant play area right in front of McDonald’s, a haribo and Cadbury’s shop.
Also on the leisure and retail park next to Cheshire oaks they have mini golf, bowling, trampoline place, laser quest.

I would absolutely not bother with blue planet aqaurium total waste of money.

Alternatively Going in to Chester itself for a day is great too - walking the city walls, hiring pedalos on the Dee and there’s a Grusome small museum called sick to death which my dc enjoyed.

As you're in the east of England, how about Roarr or Bewilderwood (both in Norfolk).

Bristol - We the Curious but like the science museum, very interactive.

Bracknell - Coral Reef water park - pool and indoor flumes

New Forest Waterpark 'huge inflatable obstacle course in a lake

Poole - Splashdown - indoor and outdoor flume Park.

South West - River Dart Country Park / Adrenalin Quarry.

North Wales - Zipworld and bounce below.

Most places have cycle trails / Kayak hire and some sort of Go Ape nearby as well.

I know you said not London, but I made the same mistake with the Harry Potter studios and instead we did the HP walking tour in London, as we’d already booked our flights and hotel before I realised the studio tour was booked up 🤦‍♀️ my son and I really enjoyed it.

My kids loved Bewilderwood at that age. Amazing place and some big slides, zip wires and stuff for adrenaline

Or Go Ape at Thetford Forrest. Lots of other stuff to do there too like hire bikes and go for a ride around the forest.

Or a trad seaside day out at Great Yarmouth. They usually have rides and bouncy castles and stuff as well as ice cream, candy floss, fish n chips and general beach fun.

My nephew is ADHD and autistic and he loves the Black Country Museum .

Hayfield123 · 15/07/2025 15:17

Kew Gardens. Lots of activities for children and acres of space to run and play. Children also get in free.

ThePure · 15/07/2025 15:18

Zip World and Bounce Below were much loved by my kids as well.

For rainy days they enjoyed Clip n Climb ( they are a franchise in loads of places) and roller skating or ice skating rinks as well as basically any big leisure centre with slides and a wave pool.

The Forbidden Corner in Yorkshire is great fun.

gazellefoot · 15/07/2025 16:31

Stockeld Park is amazing too. You can either just pay for the outdoors activities or you can add on a ticket to their Playhive, which is a huge indoor play area: https://stockeldpark.co.uk/

I'd also recommend Chester and surrounding areas. There is also the Ice Cream farm close by, which has lots of massive play areas.
Bewilderwood Cheshire is also not too far.
